“What happened to Panahasi finding the Keeper?” Izel asked.

“That route is a no-go,” Jaden replied.

“I’m not feeling very confident in the Ultionem right now,” Duncan said as he paced. “You’re telling us that the most powerful person in existence is sitting this one out?”

“He’s saying that the primal source is out of range of communication,” Panahasi said from behind them. “Jaden, take it down a notch. Cheetahs, stand down.”

Izel looked at the guy standing next to Panahasi. Normally Izel could detect who someone was just by looking at them—even though he’d been thrown off kilter when he’d discovered his mates—but the stranger was a complete blank to him.

Even more puzzling was the stranger’s irises. The colors swirled, and Izel was positive he saw shooting stars in them. He’d never seen anything like them before.

“Who is this?” Duncan waved a hand at the man beside Panahasi. “No offense to you, but how is a blind guy a weapon?”

The guy curled his lip. “You’re a rank idiot, shifter. I’m not blind.”

Duncan went for the guy, a deep snarl ripping from his chest, but his brothers grabbed him and pulled him back. The stranger simply smirked. “You want me to save a room full of pussies?”

Panahasi looked as if he was at the end of his rope. “Can you not antagonize everyone you meet, Gavril? Like Jaden, I thought being mated took some of the bite out of you.”

Gavril snorted. “I’m a pussycat to my mate. Everyone else can suck my—”

“Finish that sentence and I’ll tell Ari how you’ve converted back to your old ways,” Panahasi warned. “I’m certain your mate will take you to task, so play nice.”

“Who exactly is he?” Izel tore his gaze away from those mesmerizing eyes to look at Panahasi.

Gavril glared at Panahasi, but he’d dialed down his cantankerous tone. “Your wild card.”

“That tells us nothing,” Duncan argued. “While we pussies are trying to guess who you are, my mate is still in real danger.”

“As opposed to fake danger?” Gavril asked.

“I’ve about had it with you,” Duncan said. “Who the fuck are you?”

“Not who, but what.” Large, white, feathery wings shot out from behind the guy, knocking some things over. They expanded around five feet on each side, making the room seem smaller.

Izel’s brows joined his hairline. It took a hell of a lot to stun him, but Gavril had done it. “You’re an angel?” he asked.

“I thought angels were angelic,” Beckett said. “He seems more like a bargain-basement discount than the actual real deal.”

“This is what nice gets you,” Gavril said to Panahasi. “Can I go back to my surly ways?”

“When did you ever stop?” Panahasi asked. “You brought this on yourself.”

“Hey, Cormac. I think we just found your kindred soul,” Hayden said. “You’re just as surly as he is.”

“And I have no qualms about beating your ass if you don’t shut it,” Cormac replied.

Everyone turned when they heard a shriek. Milly stood there, making the sign of the cross. “Ha llegado el día del juicio final.”

Gavril’s swirling eyes softened as he looked at her. At least, Izel thought they’d softened, but it was hard to tell. “Judgment Day hasn’t arrived,” he said to her. “If it had, I’d be the one running away from the angels, not standing with those pricks.”

Duncan frowned. “What kind of angel are you?”

“It’s times like this that I regret giving up whiskey and cigarettes,” Gavril said. “Are we heading out, or do you want to waste time discussing my finer points?”

Milly had a look that said she was completely confused by Gavril’s behavior. So was everyone else, though Panahasi and Jaden didn’t bat an eye at the things coming out of Gavril’s mouth. Well, except for Panahasi’s threat when Gavril was about to tell everyone to suck his dick.

“We have a problem,” Santee said as he rushed into the living room. Then he tried to backpedal when he glanced at Gavril. “Are those wings real?”
