To hell with this. He was going to walk home. Orion stepped over the log he’d been sitting on and started away.

“Where’re you going?” Duncan asked.

“Far away from you,” Orion said. “Far away from this place.”

“You don’t even know where you are.” Duncan caught up to him. “For all we know, we could be in a fairy realm.”

Orion stopped midstride. He shook his head and then kept walking. Nope. He was going to process that insanity later. He already had enough on his mind to split his brain in half.

He wasn’t going to ask Duncan if fairies were real.

“You have no idea what’s in this forest.” Duncan grabbed Orion’s arm to stop him.

Orion shoved Duncan away. He had a feeling the cheetah shifter had let him because Duncan was lean with muscles, whereas Orion lacked definition.

“Don’t put your goddamn hands on me,” Orion snapped. “I’ve had enough of men thinking they can push me around.”

Duncan held his hands up in a surrender gesture. “I’m sorry. I promise I wasn’t being aggressive with you.”

“Marvell pushed me around,” Orion snarled, “and I’m not letting anyone else do it, Duncan. Keep your paws to yourself.”

“Was that supposed to be funny?” Duncan looked as if he was fighting a smile. “A reference to my cheetah?”

“Whatever.” Orion started walking again, refusing to be charmed by the jerk. “Can’t you snap some clothes on or however you get dressed?”

“I dress the same as you,” Duncan replied. “When I shift, my clothes shred, and since I don’t have a go-bag with me, I’m stuck being naked for the time being.”

How wonderful. Now Orion had to look at a naked hunk until Izel stopped having a fit and returned. Orion stopped and looked around, unsure where he was going.

“Do you really think all three of us are mates?” He turned to look at Duncan, keeping his gaze on the guy’s face and not his groin.

“I honestly don’t know,” Duncan admitted. “I’ve heard of preternatural having two mates, so it’s possible.”

Orion frowned. “How do you not know?”

“I was too busy being livid to sniff Izel,” Duncan replied sarcastically. “When he returns, I’ll shove my nose in his crotch.”

Orion glared at Duncan. “Are you always an asshole?”

“Only when I’m tackled for wanting to get to my mate, and then a stranger shows up out of the blue and sends us to destination unknown. And to top it all off, he claims all three of us are mates. That would make anyone testy.”

“Like I’m handling this any better,” Orion argued. “You can shelf your smart mouth and we can figure a way out of this, or you can be an asshole until we die of starvation.”

Just then Orion’s stomach rumbled, reminding him that he still hadn’t eaten today.

Duncan sighed and ran a hand through his short, dark hair. “I’m sorry, Orion. I’m really not like this. Well, I do joke a lot, but I’m not normally an ass, especially to my mate.”

Orion arched a brow. “Just how many mates have you had?”

The guy smirked. “You’re the only one, and fuck-face, if he’s telling the truth.”

“Why do you think he left?”

“My guess?” Duncan asked. “To reap some souls.”

Orion shivered. If they really were telling him the truth, he was basically mated to death. How morbid was that? “How do we get back to your house?”

“Since I have no idea where we are, your guess is as good as mine.” Duncan glanced around. “This doesn’t look like the forest in Midnight Falls. It feels too…enchanted.”
