I hear a rustling sound and then silence, followed by the noise of a phone being dialed. She’s calling him on speaker? Oh, God…

“Hi, Cole? It’s Casey.”

“Hey, babe.”

It’s him. It’s Cole. I recognize his voice. He called her ‘babe’, and I clench my fists, anger building inside me.

“I’ve got Gina with me.”

“Hey, sexy.”

Sexy? Is that worse than ‘babe’? I don’t know.

Either way, it’s Gina who replies to him. “We know you said you’re going away over the weekend, but we were wondering if you wanna meet up tonight?”

“Sure. I didn’t realize you guys would be available, but if you’re free, I can come to your place.”

He sounds so carefree, so blasé, and I have to unclench my fists because they’re hurting.

“Can you stay over?” Casey asks.

“No. Not this time. But my dick’s already aching for those perfect pussies.”

She laughs. “We’re aching for your cock, too.”

“I guessed as much.” God, he’s so arrogant. “When shall I come over?”

“Around seven?” Gina says.

“Okay.”

They end their call, and Casey says, “How could he not think we’d be available? For him, I’d cancel everything on my schedule… including Christmas.”

Gina laughs, and I hear the door open and close, their giggles fading into the distance.

I shake my head, recalling very similar thoughts about my own schedule flitting through my head on Monday, when Cole asked me out to dinner… a dinner I won’t be attending now.

I open the door again, almost falling out of it, and make my way over to the basins. There are mirrors above them and the reflection looking back at me is pale, my blue eyes wide and glistening.

I will not cry… not over Cole. He’s not worth it. Although this shock coming on top of the photographs, and Lucian’s attitude is enough to make any woman weep. I could kick myself for being blinded by good looks and charm, but I can’t help thinking what a lucky escape I’ve had. Or I will have done, when I break off our arrangements for tomorrow.

I wash my hands, dry them quickly, and walk back to my desk. Lucian’s door is still closed and I sit down, finding the piece of paper with Cole’s number on it before I pull my phone from my purse. I go to my message app, my fingers hovering over the keypad, before I realize I need to do more than send a message, and I abandon that idea and dial his number.

“Livia?” he says, answering on the second ring, and making it clear he’s saved my details, which is a compliment I won’t be returning. “Is something wrong?”

“That depends on your definition of wrong.” My voice is quiet and impersonal and he picks up on that straight away.

“Are you okay?”

“Why wouldn’t I be?”

“You sound… kinda weird.”

“Do I? I wonder if that’s because of the conversation I just overheard.”

“What conversation was that?”

“One that took place in the ladies’ room just now. There were two women in there at the same time as me. One of them was called Casey, and the other was Gina. They’re friends of yours, I believe?”
