“They’re sure? Forgive me but I was made aware of the link between Omega Cabot and yourself, Mr. Owens. There was a mention of dropped assault charges and a potential vendetta.”

He let that last word hang in the air for a moment. Trevor’s hand stilled on my back but I could feel the tremors through my layers of clothing.

“Shae is sure but you can independently corroborate with the other EMT taken that night. Additionally, Omega Cabot confirmed that they knew about a failed attempt by my father to force me into courting the Rothchild pack. She taunted us about it before several witnesses at a charity fundraiser only a few days ago. Based on the statements made by the Rothchild Alphas in your station, the details she gave would only have been known to people involved in the bargaining.”

Travers made a grunt type noise that could have been impressed or annoyed—it was difficult to tell which through the phone—but Trevor tightened his arm around my back and nuzzled his face into my chest.

“In the interest of cooperation with your pack’s claim of retribution, we will be arresting the Alphas of pack Jackal today. Based on what you have said and the statements of the Rothchild Alphas, I believe we have cause to bring in Omega Cabot as well. Will you be extending your claim to her in addition to Alpha Graves?”

Trevor froze, then took a deep breath of my scent and sat back in his chair. Moving my hands to his chest, I rested them there and let him process what had been said. I knew Jade had invoked some laws of pack retribution for the attack on the warehouse and for the Alpha who’d orchestrated it all, but I didn’t know how that worked with Omegas. Trevor’s beard twitched as he clenched his jaw before he cleared his throat and leaned toward the desk.

“We will speak to the rest of our pack and I’m sure our lawyers will contact you if that is the case.”

“Understood.”

Trevor disconnected the call but didn’t move from where we were now pressed chest to chest.

“Let’s go home?”

“But, Jade needed me to find out more about Blake Graves. I got distracted looking through footage and social media this morning to see if he showed up anywhere. I haven’t got to look into his?—”

Trevor silenced me by pressing his lips to mine, nipping gently at my lower lip until I opened up to give him access. He took the ground I’d offered and drove his tongue into my mouth as my need ratcheted up. I began moaning into his mouth, giving into the need to rock my hips that I’d been holding back since we came into his office.

“Please, beautiful? Shae is struggling and I’m…” he sighed, squeezing his eyes shut. “I don’t want to be here right now, and Jade and Theo need rest. I’m sure Miles is already on his way. It may be selfish but?—”

This time it was my turn to cut him off with a sweeter kiss. I tried to use that kiss to tell him that I understood and I was there for him.

“It’s not selfish. We’re your pack. Let us take care of you.”

He pressed his forehead to mine, and we stayed like that for a few more moments before messaging the pack chat and making the arrangements for everyone to meet at home.

Finally, I would get my entire pack in my nest.

People who had never lived as part of a pack or misunderstood Omegas often thought that nests were basically just about sex, but they were so much more. A nest for an Omega meant comfort and safety. It’s true that heat and spike sex almost always happened in the Omega’s nest but that was because Omegas, hell, people in general, were rarely as vulnerable as they were during sex. During a heat, we were rarely coherent and mindlessly begged for anything that would satisfy the urges that our bodies flooded us with.

I wanted that space of safety and of comfort for my pack. They were hurting. We’d been beaten down and we still had to fight. I might have only been bonded to Theo but the longer I spent with my pack the more tuned in I was to their needs. The Omega need to care for them, balance them, keep them healthy and happy was too strong to ignore any more. Standing, I tugged on Trevor’s hand. He followed without question, and we made our way to the others.

CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

JADE

We’d all dragged ourselves home after Shae’s revelation made it clear that we needed to regroup. We hadn’t really all been together as a pack since that first night at the hospital and then Theo had basically been in a coma.

Miles had raced home and carried Shae up to the nest as the rest of us moved up behind them. We all stripped out of the clothes we’d worn to work, except for Ethan, who was swimming in borrowed sweats, and climbed into the nest. Our sweet Omega squirreled away several shirts and placed them in spots that only made sense to him but at his embarrassed expression we all pretended we hadn’t noticed.

Ethan pulled Shae down to be close to him and then he nervously looked between the four of us Alphas as we stood around his nest. Miles made the decision for him and laid at Shae’s back. I moved to Ethan’s other side so I could still reach them across Ethan. Trevor and Theo looked at each other and then simultaneously broke into some sort of scuffle. Like they were both going for the last cookie or some nonsense that I was sure would make sense to someone with siblings. Ethan’s near giggles rang through the space and Shae joined in with their unrestrained laughter that ended in a snort.

Theo elbowed Trevor in the gut, dove into the spot behind me and tucked me against his front, then reached his arm across me to grab Ethan’s hand. Trevor looked around the nest and I started to worry for him until the side of his mouth lifted in a smirk that he shot in Theo’s direction. He got on his hands and knees and crawled to where Ethan lay on his back between Shae and I before moving right between our Omega’s legs.

Ethan sucked in a startled breath, obviously anticipating Trevor was going to do something, but that breath wooshed out of him as Trevor dropped down and pillowed his head on Ethan’s stomach. I could feel Theo pouting in the bond as Ethan pulled the tie from Trevor’s hair and began threading the fingers of his free hand through it.

“I call that spot tomorrow, dickhead.”

“Gotta be smarter next time, little brother.”

Theo’s petulant growl at Trevor’s teasing set Ethan and Shae tittering again until Shae’s laugh broke off on a yawn. Ethan turned his face toward them and kissed their forehead and began to purr. I drifted off faster than I would have thought possible, lulled to sleep by the perfect Omega in my arms and the scent of our pack surrounding me.
