The Mexican restaurant we liked to eat at, or more specifically, where I loved to eat, appeared as Abel pulled into their driveway. I was so happy because I was all for eating here. I would’ve come with him much easier if he had mentioned this place in my room. I didn’t want to take back his kiss, though. I wanted more of those.

“Stay here.”

Abel went into the trunk and then came around and opened the door, helping me out. He had a large gift bag in his hand and laced his free hand with mine, walking us into the restaurant.

“What’s in the bag?”

Lifting my hand to his lips, he kissed the inside of my wrist. The hostess smiled when she spotted us and had us sitting in a booth in the back in no time.

“Do you both already know what you’re getting?” She laughed.

Maybe we did come here one too many times. But I wouldn’t change anything. The food, oh God, the food was always worth it.

“I’ll have the same,” I said.

“Me too.”

The hostess didn’t even bother to give us the menus she held as she walked off. A server came over and got our drink order. Once we were situated, I bumped my shoulder into Abel’s. “So, what’s in the bag?”

Abel rolled his eyes and grabbed the bag. He lifted out a wrapped box and put it in front of me, along with four more. I stared at them, trying to figure out why he’d given me these gifts.

“What are these?”

He thanked the server for our drinks and took a swig of his iced tea. “Why don’t you open them? It might answer your question?”

I poked my tongue out at him, and he told me not to give him any ideas when we were in public.

Blushing, I looked at the stacked packages before me and had no clue what to expect. The wrapping wasn’t the most beautiful. It looked hastily put together, but I didn’t get presents often, so I wanted to take them in. Abel constantly did things to make me feel special.

“Are you going to stare at them all night?” He laughed as he put his arm on the back of the bench.

“No, I’m just– Thank you.”

“You haven’t even opened them yet.”

“I know, I just don’t get presents often.”

The jokester look on his face wiped away quickly, and he wrapped his hand around the back of my neck softly as he played with some of my hair.

“Come on, baby, open them up.”

“Okay.” I grabbed the first one and dove in, where the paper went everywhere. It was a box full of notes.

It was strange, and I gave Abel a questioning look. He tried to hide his smile. “Keep going.”

I sailed through the packages, and I skimmed through all the boxes. They were full of notes, study guides, and previous exams for all my courses. I sat stunned in disbelief. They were even for the professors I had.

“We’ll study tonight, okay?” He kissed my cheek as I gaped at the holy grail of grades right in front of me.

Our food arrived, and Abel cleaned the paper up, threw it into the gift bag he brought, and put the boxes in there, too. The server left, and before anything else could be said, I crawled across the booth and straddled Abel’s lap, bumping the table, but I didn’t care. I kissed him like he kissed me in the parking lot, and when I moved my lower body, the evidence proved he appreciated my thanks.

There were giggles, and Abel stopped the kiss. We looked over, and a family of four watched us. The daughters were laughing, but the parents scowled.

Oops.

“So you like your gifts, huh?”

“Duh. It’s amazing, thank you. I’ve been so stressed.”
