On the nightstand, my phone chirped with a text from Kailey.

Kailey: I don’t want to get out of bed, but I will if you want to meet for breakfast. I’m thinking coffee, lots of coffee.

Chuckling, I replied.

Me: Trust me, I want to stay in bed, but Abel is forcing me out. He has something planned. Rain check?

Kailey: Fine. But I’m not happy sharing you. I no longer have a boyfriend and have free time, and now you have a boyfriend and no free time. Don’t get me wrong, being under that guy of yours has to be a lot more fun, but we need a girls’ night.

My face burned with mortification. The idea she knew exactly what we were spending our time doing made me bury my face in the pillow in embarrassment for a moment.

Me: KAILEY!!!

Kailey: LOL, oh come on, nothing to be embarrassed about. At least one of us is getting some. My vibrator has been working a lot of over time.

Me: OMG! This conversation is over.

Kailey: Kiss kiss. Text or call me later after you’re done with whatever it is you’re doing. *Wink wink* Tell Abel I said hi.

Not bothering with a reply, I got out of bed, trying not to get more worked up over Kailey’s teasing. It didn’t help that I was a private person, but this was Kailey after all, so I decided to lighten up with her at least.

Abel parked in front of the shopping center Kailey consistently brought me to, and I tipped my head at him.

“You need better clothes.”

Frowning, I glanced down at my jeans and sweater. They weren’t brand labels, but they were clean and presentable. It didn’t look bad. They were just cheap.

“You know people judge on face value. We’re together now. Like it or not, your clothes need to look the part. You’re beautiful in whatever you wear, but you need some clothes that send the message we want.” Abel got out of the car. I gaped behind him at his blunt remarks.

The passenger door swung open, and Abel looked at me. I must’ve been in my head longer than I thought because he rolled his eyes when I didn’t jump out.

“Chan, it’s not a big deal. This is the world you agreed to come into. It’s a role you have to play. Now come on, so we can Pretty Woman this shit.”

Abel reached for my hand, and when I placed mine in his, he guided me out of the car. “Pretty Woman, this shit?”

“Yeah, don’t you girls love that part of the movie where they get dolled up and catered to and get a bunch of new clothes.”

Shrugging, I stepped forward as Abel led me toward the entrance. “I’m not liking being cast as the hooker in this scenario, Abel. Might want to start thinking before you talk.”

“Just concentrate on the ‘getting new clothes’ part.” Abel smiled as he shook his head.

We first entered the shop, where Kailey and I had run into Chance, Abel’s dad. Knowing Abel’s rocky relationship with his father, I didn’t mention how Chance had opened an account there for me and instructed me to buy whatever I needed. It was wise not to ruin the day.

“Miss, my girl needs a whole new wardrobe from top to bottom. Get her measured and bring everything from casual wear to evening gowns.”

The sales associate gaped at Abel, and when nothing happened, Abel frowned and got annoyed.

“Is there a problem?”

A manager hurried over and put her hand on the sales associate’s shoulder. “Apologies, sir. So we are to fully dress your girlfriend then?”

Abel lifted his brow. “Wasn’t that what I said?”

A broad smile sprouted across the manager’s face. “Yes, of course. Please follow me, and we’ll get you both situated. How about some mimosas, or would you prefer something else to drink?”

Abel glanced at his phone as a couple of alerts sounded. “That’s fine.”

The manager gave some instructions to the sales associate and put her hand on my back to guide me away. “Now, let’s set you up in a room, and we’ll get exact measurements for everything.”
