I had to laugh because she was so right. Rosie only had to flash her gummy grin and Rocky would do whatever it took to keep that look on her face. “Maybe it was because she was the perfect mixture of us both, with his dark skin and my blue eyes. “He can’t resist that smile.”

“Neither can Nolo,” Lisa admitted. “One little whimper and he’s out of bed to see what little prince Alex needs.”

My best friend and I continued to laugh as the backyard filled up with all the MC brothers, the club girls, and a few more people neither of us recognized.

“I knew he would be like that as a father.”

“Did you? I was worried because he’s an only child, you know?”

“So am I.” I shrugged. “We’re resourceful, and if he’s anything like me, desperate for a family of his own. Your husband is definitely one of the good ones.”

Lisa and Nolan made it down the aisle before Rocky and me, but only because I didn’t want to be pregnant in my wedding dress. I couldn’t be happier for the two of them.

“Definitely,” she agreed. “But it’s weird as fuck, right? That we’re married to father and son?”

“Shh…” I said, closing my eyes with a blissful expression and reaching my finger blindly towards Lisa’s lips. “Sshhhh… Don’t think about it. Don’t even say it out loud. It’s fine, everything’s fine, hush little baby, don’t say a word…”

Lisa laughed her loud, infectious, joyous laugh and batted at my hand, and I cracked an eye and grinned at her.

“We’re both happy, right?” I asked.

“Right. So damn happy.”

“Well then fuck everybody who isn’t us,” I said, repeating a smart man’s words. “Who cares what anyone else would say about the fact that I’m now your step-mother-in-law?”

“Not to mention your ex-boyfriend’s stepmom, and my baby’s step-grandmother.”

“Ssssshhhhhhhhhhhhh…” I scrunched my eyes shut and smooshed my shushing finger firmly against her lips. “Do not speak so disrespectfully to Grandmama Pey.”

Lisa’s eyes widened comically, and we burst out laughing. “You are even more ridiculous than you were when we met.”

“Thanks, it’s the trauma,” I said with a proud hair flick. “Not to mention spending all day with kids.” Even though my new job as a speech therapist was remote, it was still all kids nonstop. All day.

“What are we laughing about?” The sound of Ellie’s soft voice startled us both and we laughed louder. “I have a pitcher of margaritas if you share?”

“Ooh, gimme!” Lisa said, making grabby hands. “We can skip breastfeeding and go with the bottle for the rest of today, right?”

“Fuck, yeah we can!”

“We were talking about our weird family dynamics,” Lisa admitted as she relieved Ellie of the pitcher. “And how the babies have the guys whipped.”

Ellie tossed her head back and laughed. “Right? The minute Diesel laid eyes on the twins, it was instant love.”

This was my life now. It was full of friends like Lisa and Ellie, full of a big group of overprotective bikers who would move heaven and hell to keep us all safe. It was wonderful, going from having no family to a backyard that spilled over with family.

My gaze connected with Rocky’s. My man. My baby daddy. The love of my fucking life. Every day he was more beautiful, and I fell more in love with him. “Excuse me, ladies.”

“Uh-oh,” Lisa snickered. “Someone is about to get started on baby number two,” she said in a horrible attempt at a whisper.

“Not yet, but maybe some practicing,” I answered with a grin.

“You go girl!” Ellie retorted as she shooed me off towards my man, and I happily went.

Rocky handed Rosie off to her Uncle Gio, whose face lit up into a beaming smile when she hit him with a slobbery kiss, and he met me in the middle of the yard.

I wrapped my arms around him, and he hooked a hand around my waist, the other sifted through my hair.

“Hey there, handsome.”
