“Protecting me, huh?” Julian laughed.

“Yes, well, you were surrounded.” Jealousy still lingered in her mind. She wasn’t ready for this conversation.

“You can’t go around killin’ wolves, sweetheart. That’s not going to go over too well with the pack.” Julian sighed.

“You’re the only pack I care about right now. And you seem to like cats.” Cassia snuggled against him, her beast purred.

“I guess I do, now. Here, kitty, kitty.”

“Sooner or later those hellhounds are going to come sniffing for your mate,” Greyson warned.

“Yeah, about that.” Julian snatched a piece of bacon and listened for Cassia. “The thing is … she had a vision last night.”

“Is that a good thing? Or a bad thing?” Rafe raised a questioning eyebrow.

“You sure it wasn’t just a dream?” Logan asked.

“She said it was a vision.” Julian debated how best to explain her dream and considered that maybe he should wait for her to tell them.

Greyson lifted a slice of bacon and sniffed it. “There aren’t many things I miss about being human, but this. Hmm.”

“It’s okay, dude. Lean into it. The allure of the bacon can’t be denied.” Rafe stole another piece and bit into it.

Julian shook his head. “Something more is goin’ on here with these hellhounds. I’ve had the feeling ever since I met her there was a reason for it.”

“You’ve had a feelin’ all right … in your pants.” Rafe laughed.

“Ah to be young and unmated.” Logan smiled and looked to Julian. “You need to just accept it. You found her. Trust me … you won’t be sorry.”

“This isn’t about that,” Julian told him. “Well not directly anyway. She said the hell beasts came to her in her vision. They asked for her help.”

“Are you sure?” Logan asked. “I’ve never met a hellhound that spoke.”

“I trust her. And it’s not because she’s my mate … but even if it was, that has no bearing on my instincts.” Julian turned to his right. He sensed her before he heard her open the door. “She’s coming.”

“She can hear you,” Cassia called.

Julian smiled as she reached for his hand. His wolf growled. Though he’d marked her, he remained unclaimed. Julian forced it to the back of his mind and focused on the issue at hand. “We were just talking about you?—”

“Please. Sit.” Logan gestured to the kitchen table. “Wynter’s out right now, but she’ll be back in a bit.

Julian waited for Cassia to sit down before sliding next to her. She flashed him a flirty smile, melting him to his core.

“Dominique is on her way over with some clothes for you,” Logan continued.

“You didn’t have to do that,” Cassia replied.

“No worries. Dominique enjoys it. She likes taking care of the wolves. She’s like a pack mom. But I’d never say that to her.” Logan looked to Greyson as silence blanketed the room. “It’s a long story. Please don’t mention it to her.”

“Of course, not. Is something wrong with that?” Cassia glanced at Julian who forced an impassive expression.

“No, no. It’s just a sensitive issue with her. Please continue,” Logan said. “Tell us what you saw.”

“The vision,” Greyson reminded them.

“Hellhounds on the loose in downtown New Orleans,” Rafe said in a voice imitating a newscaster.
