“So it was nothing to do with your mate moaning?” Greyson laughed.

“Don’t be a fucker. Come on now. I’m wolf. We’re generally more open to what I’d like to call group activities.” Julian laughed at his own explanation. “We all have done it. This mating thing is new to me. My concerns about the dangers last night were justified.”

“I’m sorry, Julian.” Rafe’s face fell somber. “Greyson told me not to engage with the fae. I’ve just had enough of him. But I wasn’t expecting him to grow those things…whatever the fuck they even were.”

“Those things were cambions. But it’s not your fault, Rafe. If it’s anyone’s fault it’s mine. I should have left you back with Dominque. It was too dangerous. Kellan’s been unpredictable. He’s been escalating.”

“No way I would have let you keep me behind,” Rafe told him.

“I’m your Alpha. I could have ordered it. You’d have no choice.”

“Well, I’m glad you didn’t. But I’m sorry that I fucked up and let that thing get me.” He rubbed his gut.

“You’re healed up now, though, yeah?”

“Yeah. I’d like to not repeat the experience though.”

“I want you to know that if you don’t shift back to wolf in a few days … if you do need more blood, we’ll discuss it with Cassia.”

“Discuss what?” Cassia stood in the doorway wearing a smile.

Julian jumped to his feet as she entered the room. Her skin glowed, his fresh bite to her neck still visible. “Come sit with us.”

Cassia tightened the tie on her robe. She brushed her hand over Rafe’s shoulder before sliding next to Julian. “Hey … how are you feeling?”

“Thank you for saving me, Cass. I don’t remember but?—”

Cassia’s cheeks blushed, recalling her reaction to the wolf. “Hey, it’s okay. We’re a team now. I’m glad you’re all better. Did you get to shift after we left?”

Cassia glanced to Julian who wore a concerned expression, his lips drawn in a tight line. He shook his head. The room fell into silence.

“What?” Cassia’s eyes widened.

Greyson addressed the Alpha. “Go on. Tell her then.”

“Rafe’s having some problems shifting. He’s going to rest up and try again. There’s a chance he may need more blood. But it’s just a small chance.”

“But of course—” Cassia began.

“Let’s give it some time.”

“No, but seriously, Rafe.” Cassia placed her hand on his shoulder. “You’ve risked everything for us. Julian’s right. You’re going to be okay. I would do anything for you. If you need my blood, you’ve got it.”

“Did I hurt you?” His eyes softened, his voice a near whisper.

“No, no, it was fine. I’m fine.” She removed her hand and looked to the Alpha. “Julian and I are both fine. We’re good.”

“You’re sure?”

“Yes. I’m feeling great today.” Cassia turned and winked at Julian.

Julian’s chest tightened with pride. He put his arm around her and shot her a flirty smile. “She’s good. Perfect.”

Cassia laughed, and focused back on Rafe. “We’ll do as Julian says but if you need my help again, it’s totally fine. I don’t want you worrying. We’ll get your shifting back going soon. We’re a team.”

“Pack,” Julian corrected.

“We’re a team. Greyson and Dom are in it too.”
