“They’re honorary pack.” Julian sighed. “Okay then … well, we’ve got to regroup. We need to see Thorn.” Julian looked to Greyson. “Were you able to touch base with Viktor or Absinthe to see if they can get us together with Thorn? I can reach out to Jax if I have to. If there’s a demon in New York, he’d definitely know.”

“Absinthe appears to be missing for the moment, but I contacted the newly appointed head of vampires in New York state. Desdemona Hesperia. There’s an event later today. We are cordially invited to attend.”

“Excellent.” Julian nodded.

“What does he mean, an event?” Cassia asked. “Like, what kind?”

“The demon likes trouble.” Greyson downed the remaining whiskey and set his glass on the end table.

“Half demon,” Rafe corrected.

“He’s a demon. They relish in chaos.”

“What do you mean?” Cassia pressed.

“Bastard loves the attention. Enjoys the fanfare. So he throws extravagant events with all the bells and whistles,” Greyson explained. “An invitation is highly coveted.”

“Like a ball or a gala?” she asked.

“It could be anything. He intentionally sets the stage like he’s directing a Broadway musical. Invites supernaturals of all sorts.”

Julian looked to Greyson, almost afraid to ask what nonsensical theatrics to expect. “What is he doing this time?”

“Desdemona says it’s a pool party.”

“A pool party? But it’s at night?” Cassia’s faced tensed with concern.

“So she says. Entry requires swimwear. No street clothes allowed.”

“It’s going to be rather cold tonight in New York.” Cassia shook her head.

“Dragul meu, we don’t make the rules. The demon does. One of many reasons I hate the fucker.”

“A pool party can’t be all bad. Some of us are still single.” Rafe shrugged. “We might have some fun.”

“There’s no we,” Julian stated. “You were just on your ass last night, bud. I think it’s best if you stay back here and rest. Dom will order a donor. A fuck and a feed is in order.”

“What?” Rafe’s eyes widened and he raised his hands defensively. “I’m fine. Look at me. I’m back, baby. I may not be able to shift yet but no way I’m leaving you guys out there. Hey, hey, hey…she said it.” Rafe pointed to Cassia nodding. “We’re a team. Right? A pack. No man left behind. Including me. Tell them, Cass. Teamwork.”

Cassia laughed and shot him a broad smile.

Greyson shrugged. “Up to you, Alpha.”

Julian’s guilt resurfaced. “I shouldn’t have let you go last night. So if you go, there’s got to be some ground rules.”

“Sure, sure.” Rafe nodded and waved at him. “Come on. Lay it on me.”

“Number one. No picking fights.”

“Yeah, yeah. Good rule. Just got hurt. Probably a sound idea. Okay. Got it.”

“No wandering off by yourself. You have to stay with Greyson or me at all times.”

“All right. Got it. What else?”

“Here’s the most important rule. Unlike last night, when I tell Greyson to flash you out of any trouble, you’re immediately done. You’re out. No arguing. Until you have your wolf back, you’re lying low. We clear?”

“Yes, Alpha.” Rafe lowered his gaze and accepted his fate. “Thank you.”
