He growled in approval, fucking me with abandon, all short, rapid thrusts before one drove home. My pussy clenched around his length. And then we both came at once, his cum flooding my depths.

Afterward, I rested my head on his hard chest now that we had a bed.

“Your friend Barbie has got an attitude issue,” Rowan said. “But I don’t blame her. Who wouldn’t under Killian’s tyranny?”

“I heard that she ditched only you during a speed-dating show.” I aimed to provoke.

He cursed. “Everything leaks these days, and bad news travels fast without context. I just wanted to ask her a simple question—where I could reach you—and I was rudely denied my five minutes. On second thoughts, I was spared from the unpleasant experience the other heirs suffered through. The alarm blared at the end of every speed date, and then the heirs were kicked out like criminals. It was outrageous. Killian stooped so low as to hire a poltergeist to do his fucking dirty work.”

I giggled. Neither Barbie nor the heirs had had a good time during the speed dates. It’d been hilarious.

Rowan gave me a look and kissed my cheek. “I don’t usually curse, since it isn’t the fae way. But this speed dating trend? It was a fucking sham! That jerk, Killian, was getting off on screwing with us. I’ve been watching Barbie due to her unique power, even though she’s unknown. She’s more than an Echo, though I don’t exactly know her power source, which makes her even more intriguing. Killian knew it when he first laid eyes on her. Now that he’s finally gotten her under his roof, he’s controlling her in order to use her. Take advantage of her naïveté, even. He hoards her like a dragon guards his treasure.”

“Do the other heirs agree with you?” I asked, urged by Barbie.

Rowan nodded, threading his fingers into my long, lush hair. “We’ve formed a pact. We’ll free Barbie and bring the heir of the House of Chaos to his fucking knees.”

Barbie bit her lower lip, brooding, cooking up her own schemes. I left her to her own devices.

“So you and the other princes are in business now?” I asked. “But everyone says that Prince Silas and Prince Louis hate each other.”

“They still do, but they formed a temporary alliance in order to go after Killian,” Rowan said. “But they don’t see what I see. When you get to the bottom of this, it’s not about Killian. Somehow, Barbie is the source that turns the heirs against each other.”

Barbie bristled. She just couldn’t handle criticism.

I lifted my head from my lover’s chest and beamed at him. I liked this—talking after fucking. Very nice!

Rowan smiled back at me. “Let’s take a nap, little monster.”

Get him to leave! Barbie shouted at me. I got you a bed to let you have some privacy, not to let him sleep over here. We need to get back to the house soon, or Killian will come looking. Do you remember it took us a while to even get out of the building, since Killian has doubled the security detail? If Killian deems me a security risk, you might not get out to fuck the fae next time!

Chill your small tits! I barked back. I’ll handle it. And you need to get Killian to chill.

I’d once thought the chaos prince’s overprotectiveness and possessiveness toward Barbie was cute, but when it inconvenienced me, it grated on my nerves.

“Don’t fall asleep, princeling.” I let out an exasperated sigh as I tugged at Rowan. “You need to go.”

“After a nap,” he said with a charming smile. “It’s always nice to have a nap.”

“Next time, sugar,” I said gently. “C’mon, I told you we couldn’t stay long.”

He got up reluctantly. “I’ll see you home, then, or at least escort you to a more crowded place. It’s not safe in this area. Barbie got grabbed last time. I’m not taking the chance of letting you be kidnapped as well.”

“They wanted Barbie, not me,” I said. “I’m nobody. No one knows about me. There’s no target on my back. You go now, prince. I’ll leave after cleaning up.”

“But—”

A sweep of dark wind rose from the ground and threw Rowan out of the forest in the blink of an eye, and then walls of shadows sealed the entrance.

There’s no need to be aggressive, I told Barbie. He was just leaving.

“You know how to reach me,” I called toward Rowan, who was on the other side of the wall of darkness.

“I’ll send Barbie a message,” he shouted back.

Tell him to bring gifts, Barbie said. I’m not the kind of chick who works for free.

“Uh, Rowan sugar, you still there?”
