I knew without a doubt, tonight wouldn’t be enough. She’d indicated she wanted a different future than my sister, which gave me hope. Hope that perhaps we could pursue something. What, I wasn’t sure yet, but we’d be sure to discuss it.

But first I needed to take care of her. I fumbled for the remote to close the curtains to the private viewing room. I’d opted for a smaller audience since I didn’t know how she’d react to things afterward. There was no one there now as I watched the curtains close. A glance at my phone proved why. It was almost four in the morning. The club was closed.

As much as I’d have loved to crawl into this bed and hold Oakley close, we were in a public room. She hadn’t moved from her position and appeared to be sound asleep. So I disposed of the condom, removed her plug, and dressed enough for decency so I could carry her upstairs where there was a bedroom next to the office.

She stirred in my arms, wrapped in a sheet. “Where are you taking me?”

Her slurred words made me smile. “To a no-sex bed so you can sleep.”

“Mm.” She snuggled deeper into my chest.

Christ, I could get used to this. I’d never thought my lifestyle could sustain a relationship. I’d never thought I was missing something in my life until recently. But lately I’d been thinking about how empty my existence was. Sure, I had people who cared about me, but I didn’t have my person. A partner like Shane had in Daniella and she had in him. Could Oakley be my person?

She hardly moved when I set her in the bed. Kissing her forehead, I murmured, “I’ll be back.” The room was private, and no one would disturb her up here.

Once I returned to the play room, I gathered up her clothes and other items.

Shane was waiting for me upstairs in the office, looking none too pleased.

“Who the hell is the girl?”

Considering he’d never known me to bring a stranger into the club, I wasn’t surprised he’d ask. I just was hoping this conversation wouldn’t happen until tomorrow. “Her name is Oakley.”

He sighed. “That tells me so much. Why did you bring her to the club?”

“Why do you think?” I wasn’t about to get into the details of Oakley’s sex fantasy or how we’d met. I could explain as much as Shane desired to hear tomorrow after three cups of coffee and some rest. I was a co-owner of this club. Although bringing an outside woman in was out of character for me, I was well within my rights.

“Does tonight mean you’re performing again?”

“Yeah, probably.” Although it would be with Oakley and only if she wanted to do it again.

“Did she sign a nondisclosure form?”

We had an abundance of paperwork for members to sign before they could partake in the activities here. Legal protection. “She’s someone I know, not a member.”

His gaze narrowed. “Which is worse. Because if she’s personally motivated to screw you over, then she can.”

I shook my head. “I’m not dealing with this shit tonight. We’ll talk tomorrow.” He was in a temper, and I was exhausted. All I wanted to do was curl up with Oakley and get some sleep.

“This isn’t like you, Max.”

My fingers raked through my hair. “I know. Can you leave it?”

“Is this a one-night thing with her?”

“It was a weekend fling. I’ll get her to sign the damn paperwork tomorrow.” Although I’d already decided I didn’t want things to end with Oakley, I wouldn’t get into my plan to see her again until I spoke with her first.

He sighed. “Fine. How was the weekend otherwise?”

“As shitty as I predicted.” But at least Oakley had been there.

“Sorry to hear it. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.”

Chapter Twenty

Oakley

My eyes slammed shut the moment Max came in, while silent tears ran down my face. The open door had allowed me to hear everything.
