“I don’t need unlimited weapons and tools to torture someone.”

Jace lets out something between a chuckle and a snort.

But before Eli can retort, Rico walks into our combined kitchen and living room. “How’s it going?”

“Apart from Eli and Kaden threatening to torture each other?” Jace replies from the cream-colored couch. “Splendid.”

Rico levels a disapproving look on me and Eli. “You’re threatening to torture each other?”

“Yes,” Eli and I reply in unison as if that’s the most natural thing in the world.

A laugh escapes Eli’s lips, and a small smile tugs at the corner of mine.

“Fucking hell,” Rico sighs, and shakes his head at us. “Then at least make sure you’re done well before tomorrow.”

That sobers everyone up.

We’re going to help Rico confront Isabella tomorrow. It’s why Eli is here even though he has already graduated from Blackwater. We needed access to sniper rifles without alerting anyone on campus, and without asking Mr. Morelli, so Rico called Eli. Our eldest brother might act all arrogant and bossy, but he dropped everything the moment Rico called and showed up with guns in a matter of hours.

Eli, Rico, Jace, and I might give each other shit for various things more often than not, but we have each other’s backs without question every day of the week.

“Everything will be fine tomorrow,” Eli says, holding Rico’s gaze. “It will all work out.”

Rico rakes a hand through his wavy brown hair in a clear show of nerves, but his voice is steady as he says, “Yeah.” Before any of us can reply, he strides around the kitchen island and towards the fridge. “Look, I need something to do with my hands right now, so I’m going to make dinner.”

“Oh!” Jace exclaims as he turns to grin at Rico. “Can you make that pasta thing you did last week?”

While the two of them start discussing food instead, Eli turns back to me and fixes me with a pointed stare.

I blow out an annoyed sigh, because I know that he won’t be letting this go.

“I’m just… confused,” I begin.

“By what?”

“You know how I get off on fear and pain and tears?”

“Yeah?” Eli replies, and there is absolutely no judgement in his tone whatsoever.

That’s another thing I like about my brothers. None of them judge. Because we’re all a bit fucked in the head. Eli and I even more than Rico and Jace. So I know that Eli understands my dark cravings more than anyone.

“Well,” I continue. “A couple of days ago, I watched a girl climax and… I liked it.”

“You liked watching her come?”

“Yeah.” Drawing my eyebrows down, I blow out an irritated sigh. “And that’s the thing that confuses me. I’ve never gotten pleasure from seeing a woman come before. Only from their fear and helplessness.”

A wistful smile blows across Eli’s face. “I know the feeling. I never craved watching someone come until I met Raina.”

“And that’s just the problem. I crave it. I need to see it again. Like a fucking addict. It’s infuriating.”

Eli cocks his head, and uneasiness slithers around my spine at the calculating look in his eyes when he watches me. Fuck, I shouldn’t have said anything. Now he will jump to the wrong conclusions.

“Like I said, I’ve only felt that with Raina,” he says, confirming my fear that he is indeed jumping to the conclusion that I somehow care about Alina in any way. Which is absolutely ridiculous. Eli looks me up and down. “Who is this girl?”

“No one,” I reply, and make an effort to roll my eyes as if he is being stupid. “Just forget it.”

“It’s Alina Petrov,” Jace calls from the couch. “Mikhail and Anton’s little sister.”
