He smiles and gives me a kiss; the girls catch it and they both make bleh sounds while sticking out their tongues. We both eye them annoyingly and they giggle before racing to the car.

I hand him the keys to the car before telling him, “You’re going to love Colorado.”

"Hollis, have you seen my tie?" I'm rummaging through all of the shit laid out on the bed, compliments of me working until noon today and waiting until I got home to pack.

"It's hanging in the closet, babe. On your tie hook. We had it pressed, remember?" Hollis shouts from the bathroom.

She offered to pack for me days ago, but I told her I'd get it. I just didn't want her to overwork herself. She's been taking care of Luna—potty training a puppy is no joke—and her night classes have her so exhausted by the end of the day. It actually hurts me to see how tired she is this morning. But I brought her a coffee on my way home and the look of appreciation in her eyes is all I need to know that I'm doing something right.

"Thank you!" I shout at her as I walk into the closet to find my tie right where she told me it was. I take it off the hook, wrap it up gently and stick it in my carryon. "All packed," I holler right as she exits the bathroom.

"I told you I could have packed for you, Jax," she says with a sympathetic look on her face.

"I know, babe, but I know how tired you've been." I walk over to her after I drop my suitcase off by the bedroom door.

"Yeah, and you've been working a lot more so-"

"So, you're just going to have to accept help from me, Little Moon. I can handle the weight. Let me help you from time to time." I reach out to pull her into me and her giggle makes me smile.

"I just don't want you to think that I'm not willing or able," she admits to me as I brush her hair out of her face.

"Hollis Marie. I have never once thought that about you. You are the most willing and able woman I know. I knew what I was getting into when I took on as shop owner and getting your bachelor's is important to you. It doesn't hurt me to help you when you need it," I tell her as I press a kiss to the top of her head.

"Yeah, but the mess on the bed says otherwise." She nods her head toward the bed and I realize I might have been causing more stress than helping to eliminate it.

"Listen, I couldn't find the right socks to go with the shoes I have to wear, and my tie was-"

"Was right where you put it the other day," she deadpans. I rub my hand over the gruff of my facial hair, challenging her attitude with my eyes as she traces her finger over my shirt from my abs to my chest. "I guess we're both just going to have to be more accepting of each other's help then, aren't we, handsome?"

"You are something else, Hollis." I pinch her chin gently between my index finger and thumb, turning her up toward me so I can lean in and kiss her on her lips.

A knock on the front door breaks our attention away, Luna starts barking in excitement downstairs.

"I'll go get it, it's probably Jaelynn here to take our baby away." Hollis removes herself from my hold and I smirk at her.

"I'll be down in just a few minutes, gotta clean up this mess I made." I wink at her right before she leaves to let in her friend.

As I start putting away everything that I didn't end up packing for the trip, my phone vibrates in my pocket. I take it out to see that Callan is calling me.

"Hey, Cal," I answer.

"Just the guy I wanted to talk to."

"What's up?"

"I need advice and maybe some help. I have a surprise for Sterling, but I honestly don't know if she'll like it or not," he tells me, and I immediately pique interest but also concern.

"What might this surprise be?" I ask.

"Well…"
