“Joey the rat’s ex?” Anabel laughs. “Wow. Thought you were dead.”

“Not yet, apparently.” I smirk angrily at her. “You seem well over your husband.”

“My husband? Rocco was probably the worst of all your men.” Anabel points her finger around the room. “I caught him banging a prostitute in the car right outside our house!”

“So tell our new girl what you did to get him back.” Maria’s attention is still on her nails.

“Banged the mailman.” She tilts her head, patting herself on the back.

“Not wearing that, I hope.” I point, and the other ladies chuckle.

Anabel stomps back to her room, undressing and scoffing along the way.

“So.” I turn to Gabby. “We’re stuck here forever? That’s it?”

“Pretty much,” she says, making me deflate. “He takes us on camping trips in his RV once in a while when he’s not being a rogue hitman, but it’s rare.”

“You all know why… right?”

“Fucking, Stephon.” Jane folds her arms. “I still can’t believe it.”

“It’s true, though.” Maria raises her eyebrows. “He showed us the autopsy and DNA reports. Blood, semen, all matched to our lovely mobster hubbies who couldn’t keep it in their pants.”

“That poor girl.” I frown. “I guess we were all idiots, huh?”

“We’re the remnants of their karma.” Gabby turns to finish wiping her dishes. “Bruno.” She shakes her head. “I loved him so much.”

“I know you did.” I rub her back.

I’m happy to see all of the plates and utensils are plastic, which will make it harder for Jane to fasten a shiv and murder me in the shower. Though she can probably choke me out, no problem.

“Have any of you tried to escape?” I ask.

Maria huffs humorously at that. “Look at us, hunnie, and look at him. We’re a bunch of ungraceful fawns against a seasoned hunter.”

“Does he let you upstairs, ever? Besides the camping trips?” I probe further.

“Who the hell would want to hang out up there?” Anabel peeks her head back into the open living room. “Smells like ass.”

“Uh, fresh air?”

Anabel snaps her tongue and rolls her eyes. “C’mon, stupid. Since the other girls won’t give you a tour.”

As if this day could get any weirder, I decide to follow the half-naked woman covering her breasts as she showcases each of the captive’s separate lavish bedrooms. My old friend, Gabby, is at my back, and a woman who I’m pretty sure is going to be pissing on my tombstone is a few steps behind her.

One thing is for sure – Leandro Rigiano is a sick puppy.

Chapter 6

Leandro

“She looks so much like you, I can’t get over it.”

I gaze adoringly at Marissa’s picture as I sit alone in my car.

“I wish you would tell me what to do now. We were supposed to be together after this last kill. Wasn’t that the plan? Why, then, didn’t you help her pull that trigger?”

I scoff, thinking back to the cold steel of my pistol pressed to my forehead. Marissa’s face was so vivid in my mind’s eye, outlined in gold, her arms open for my embrace.
