“You didn’t start another war while protecting yourself, did you?”

He side-eyes me. “If you’re wondering about Donny… him and I understand each other, mostly.”

“Not what it sounded like on the phone.”

The car is immaculate inside. Suspiciously so. I take his grunts and groans as another invitation to bother him. “Did you get this cleaned, for little ol’ me?” I open the glove compartment and gasp when a pistol nearly falls out.

Leandro catches it, and slams it shut. “Do you mind, woman?”

“I was excited to see you,” I blurt. “Okay?”

He keeps his eyes on the road, but I notice his mouth twitch. “I’ve been having trouble with that.”

“Oh really?” The heat turns to a hundred down there.

“It’s not normal, Alessia.”

“How about you call me Sia?”

Another angry glare comes my way, making me fidget in my seat.

“I can’t live like this anymore. I’m plagued by guilt.” He squeezes the steering wheel. “I’ve been indulging myself in you, night after night, only to feel like I’ve betrayed everything I stand for in the morning.”

My mouth opens to speak, but his hand on my thigh stops me.

Heat rushes into my face.

“I can’t keep this up, Sia.”

“Then don’t.” Air escapes my lips. This is all I’ve been hoping for in my lonely nights. I knew I wasn’t crazy.

He pulls his hand off of me and it takes everything not to lunge to drag him back. I want him all the way up inside me. Imagining his cock night after night isn’t enough anymore.

“I’m not her,” I breathe. “I’m something different. An intermission before you see her again on your way to hell.”

He’s struggling to decide whether to give in. Thoughts of his late wife are holding him back, I can tell. But there’s no more time. I’ve been planting seeds that all of us women should take a stroll together to see what happens. Gabby is scared and Maria is reluctant. But if I can gather the others, they’re going to come. Arnold is going to rescue us. And Leandro will be nothing more than a memory in my life.

I need to explore him now.

“Sit still,” he commands.

I’m too bothered to. He almost made an advance.

“I’m warning you,” he growls.

“Or what?” I say in my most seductive voice.

He doesn’t respond to me, and when I lean in closer to his face, he gently puts his index finger over my mouth. “Silence. We’re here.”

He jerks the car into a Holiday Inn parking lot.

My heartbeat is jackhammering through my chest at this point. Has he taken me all the way to a hotel to fuck me? God I hope so.

“Stay on my arm. You’re my alibi,” he says in passing before jamming the lever in park and jumping out of the car. His boots stomp toward the trunk, then to my side.

A waft of cold air hits me in the face as the door swings open. He’s waiting with his hand out to escort me.

His eyes communicate lust. Yet at the same time, I’m not so sure.
