Jo wilted, already guessing what she was about to say.

“I think your photos are fantastic, too.”

She smiled. “Really? You think so? But you brought Arianna…”

Delia nodded. “I know, but she wanted to take photos of Serenity, and since I was invited and my plus one bailed on me, I brought her.”

“But she’ll be working for the magazine.”

“She will, but you’re photos will be published with your articles.”

Jo held her face in her hands. “I’m…” She was floored. Thrilled. Excited… “Thank you, I’m… that’s a generous offer… and…”

Her boss’s eyebrows knitted together. “Why do I feel like there’s a but coming?”

She chuckled. “Because… there is. I am so grateful to you for taking a chance on me as a newly graduated college kid. The things I’ve learned from you are invaluable. I have loved working for you.”

“But?”

“This is my home, and I’ve been homesick for years without realizing it. I’ve missed my grandma. I’ve missed my home. I’ve…”

“Met someone.”

Jo stared at her. “What?”

“I can see it. You glow. I’m guessing that hunk you were flirting with when I first arrived.”

Heat rushed into her cheeks and up to her ears. “Um…you saw that?”

Delia laughed. “I think everyone saw that.”

Jo squeezed her eyes shut for a beat and smiled as she looked at Delia again. “I’m sorry.”

“For what? Falling in love?” She sighed. “I’m the one who should be sorry. I should have kept my promises to you.”

“You were doing what you thought was best for the magazine.” Jo quickly added, “And I’m not just going to up and quit without taking care of the brides who were already promised an article. I wouldn’t do that to you or them.”

“I definitely appreciate that, and I’m sure the brides will too.” She smiled and sighed. “I thought you’d like to know that I moved Bridget into a writer’s position. It was a trial run, but the article she turned in yesterday was brilliant.”

"What caused all this change?” Jo asked.

Shrugging, Delia replied, “I should have moved her long ago, but I think I was afraid to lose her. She’s been the best assistant I’ve ever had.”

“That’s fantastic. I’m so happy for her.”

“I won’t say I’m not sad to lose you. We’re going to have brides who are absolutely devastated that they wouldn’t be getting a Jo Stewart article written about them.”

Jo shrugged. “I’m flying back long enough to take care of the apartment, and while I’m there, I’ll call them. And who knows, maybe I’ll still write articles here and there.”

Her boss narrowed her eyes. “And they’d be published where?”

“With only the best wedding magazine, of course.”

“Are you photographing the reception or…?”

Jo picked up her camera bag and slipped it onto her shoulder. “Maybe a few shots, but I think I’ll let Arianna Carter do most of the work. I think I’m going to enjoy myself a little.”

Jo felt light. Feathery. Hopeful and happy. Now, all she had to do was find the guy she hoped to share her forever with.
