“Thank you,” I murmured. “Why are you doing this?”

“Doing what?”

“This big show of pursuing me. Is it just to piss off Smoke?”

“Let me ask you something,” he said instead of answering.

“Okay…”

“You never actually wanted me to show you around town, did you?”

“No.”

“Then why did you say yes?”

I sighed. “Because Smoke warned me away from you…”

“So, to piss him off, you said yes to my offer?”

“Yeah.”

He let out a laugh. “My boy wants you. I’m just helping move things along.”

“Can you just do me a favor?” I asked.

“What?”

“Don’t feed into this anymore,” I said. “I’m not ready to jump into another relationship. And even if I was, playing around with my best friend’s father would not be the way to do it. A lot of people could get hurt here. So just drop it.”

He was silent for long enough that I worried the call had cut out, but then he said, “A lot of people could get hurt? Or you could get hurt?”

It was the second time that day that I hung up on a man.

Chapter 26

“I can’t wear these,” I announced from the privacy of the dressing room at Leather and Ink.

“Why not? What’s wrong with them?” Brielle asked. “Are they uncomfortable?”

“Are they too tight?” Jazz inquired.

With a sigh, I pulled back the curtain to show them. “I look like Olivia Newton John in Grease. They had to sew her into her leather pants, you know.”

“Really?” Jazz asked. “I had no idea.”

“Fun little movie trivia fact for ya,” I said.

“Turn,” Brielle commanded.

I dutifully twirled.

“Well, it’s official,” Brielle said with a sigh. “I’ve got to get uglier friends.”

I snorted out a laugh.

“You’ve got a nice ass, Logan. I know we just met, but I feel honor bound to tell you that,” Jazz said with a grin.

“Thanks.” I shook my head. “But these are going back on the rack.”
