He grabbed the driver’s side door handle and opened the door for me, and then held out a hand to help me out of the car.

I placed my palm in his.

“You didn’t shave,” I said in way of greeting.

“Not yet,” he agreed. He continued to hold my hand and closed the car door with his other. “But I brought all the stuff.”

“Where is it?”

He reached over to his bike and grabbed a plastic bag off the seat. “Got something in there for you, too.”

“Is it chocolate?”

“No.”

“Hmm.”

We walked to the back of the bakery and he leaned against the brick wall while he waited for me to rummage in my purse for my keys. I found them and unlocked the door.

He followed me up the stairs to the second floor. The moment we were inside the apartment, Smoke had me pressed against the door, his body pinning me in place.

“Hi,” I said breathlessly.

He grinned. “Hey. Do I get a hello kiss?”

I ran my hands up his chest. “Depends on how good the present you brought me is.”

Chuckling, he pulled back and gave me room to breathe. I suddenly wished he hadn’t.

He reached into the plastic bag and pulled out a can of shaving cream, a razor, aftershave, and a toothbrush and set them on the counter. And then he dug back into the bag to remove a flat object wrapped in white tissue paper.

He handed it to me.

I gently unwrapped a stained-glass pink cactus bloom.

“I thought you might miss the desert, and your place doesn’t have any plants. So, consider it a housewarming gift.”

I looked at the stained-glass piece that was the size of my hand and then I stared at him.

“Logan?” His expression was quizzical.

“This is really sweet,” I said.

“Then what’s wrong?”

“I know the club was involved with the cartel,” I blurted out.

“How did—”

I winced.

He sighed. “Rach.”

I nodded.

“Fuck.”

“She didn’t know that I didn’t know.”
