“I don’t know the kind of woman my dad would date,” she admitted. “He got with my mom when they were so young that I don’t think she’s a good indicator of what he’d want now. Did you know he shaved?”
“What does that have to do with anything?”
“Nothing. But I just find it weird and noteworthy considering what we’re talking about.”
“Maybe it’s time for you to get a love life.”
“I’m trying, babe.” She shook her head. “Anyway, what’s up with you?”
“I quit my job,” I said.
“You what? When?”
“A few days ago.”
“But why? You love your job!”
“I know.” I smiled. “But I’ve decided to go into business for myself.”
“Seriously?”
“Seriously.” I nodded. “Colt wants to hire me to help with the apartment building. Joni is hiring me to mock up her kitchen for renovation. Seemed foolish not to dive in.”
“What apartment building?”
“The one the club bought to help women who need a safe, affordable place to land after getting out of bad relationships, that sort of thing. It was Doc’s idea,” I said.
“Hmm. I’m all for community outreach and charity, but let’s face it. You’re not into real estate unless you want to make a buck. I wonder what the story is there, you know?”
“Yeah, me too.” I frowned. I knew what the story was, but I wasn’t at liberty to share it with Tavy.
Another secret between us.
“How’s your crush on Raze?” I asked.
She sighed. “I dreamed about him the other night.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah.” She shook her head. “There’s something about Raze that is just so…”
“Taboo?”
She nodded. “Yeah. Maybe I need to see a shrink and work out why I want a man who doesn’t want me.”
“You know he doesn’t want you? You’ve asked?”
“Doesn’t really matter, he won’t touch me. I’m Smoke’s daughter. They have rules, you know?”
“Apparently.”
“I guess I should be grateful Raze doesn’t want anything to do with me. Like I need to get tied up with a biker anyway.” She paused. “Hmm…tied up…”
I sniggered.
“Don’t laugh at me,” she pleaded with a roguish smile. “You don’t know what it’s like.”
“I don’t?”
