Another vibration sounded, followed quickly by another few.

“What’s going on?” I wondered aloud, grabbing my cell and opening it. “Oh. That’s fun.”

“What?”

I looked at Smoke. “Mia invited me to lunch with the Old Ladies.”

“You going to go?”

“I don’t know. Maybe.” I smirked. “If I can promise them not to pepper me with questions about you and me.”

“Yeah, good luck with that.” He laughed. “Anyway, I better get going before you maul me again.”

“Sir, you mauled me!”

“Damn right, and I’ll do it again later tonight.” He pecked my lips.

“Looking forward to it.”

“Easy, Doc,” Mia said with a laugh. “The food’s already dead, it’s not going anywhere.”

“No time,” Doc said around a mouthful of beef burrito. “I have to get back to the clinic.”

Darcy lifted her hand and caught the attention of the server. She pointed to her empty margarita glass, silently asking for another.

The group of us was a spectacle of chaos. Old Ladies were trying to wrangle their babies with one hand while attempting to eat their food with the other.

Cash grabbed a handful of rice off Rach’s plate and threw it to the floor. “Cash,” she moaned.

“Here,” I said from the seat next to her. “Give him to me.”

She gladly handed him over. “I’d love just one meal that was still hot by the time I got to eat it.”

“I don’t even remember the last time I ate a hot meal,” Allison remarked as she moved her son to her other leg.

“We need a biker baby daycare,” Mia joked. “For days like today where we just need a few hours to ourselves.”

“Where we can use both our hands to eat,” Joni added. She looked down at a sleeping Everett who was in his sling, strapped to her chest.

Doc swallowed her bite. “You’re a freakin’ genius.”

“I know,” Mia said with a smile. “But perhaps you could tell me why you think I’m a genius.”

“The clinic could use a daycare,” Doc said. “For the staff, I mean. I can’t believe I didn’t think of it sooner.”

“How can I get in on that?” Rach asked. “I’d pay extra to be able to leave Cash with qualified people—and with doctors nearby? Sign me up.”

“Seriously,” Allison added.

The server brought another margarita to Darcy and took away the empty glass, along with the baskets of chips that we’d depleted.

Willa and Brooklyn returned from the bathroom and took their seats. “I’m not going to be able to eat it all,” Brooklyn complained.

“Why not?” I asked.

“Because I’ve reached that stage of pregnancy where there’s not a lot of room. What with the baby rearranging my organs.”
