“I sat around waiting for you.” I winced at how pathetic I sounded.

“I’m sorry.” His expression was contrite. “Please, Logan. Let me explain.”

I reluctantly stepped aside and let him come in.

“Ugh.” I put a hand to my nose. “That perfume is making me nauseous.”

He closed the door and then bent over to take off his boots. He reached into his cut and pulled out a pistol in a holster and set it on the counter as he started to take off his clothes.

“What are you doing?” I demanded, stepping away from him.

“Getting naked,” he said. “So I can wash my clothes.”

“Stay dressed,” I commanded. “I don’t want to be vulnerable right now.”

“Cupcake, the last thing I want to do is hurt your feelings or take you for granted. You did a nice thing for me by making dinner. I’ve been looking forward to it all day.”

I crossed my arms over my chest and dipped my head. “Continue.”

“Can I sit next to you?” he inquired.

“No,” I said, pointing to the chair. “You can sit there and explain. Start with the black eye.”

“I like this commanding side of you,” he joked as he took a seat. “All right.” He pointed to his eye. “Bones did this.”

“Bones? What the hell?” I demanded.

He sighed. “I told you I was going to The Ring this morning?”

I nodded.

“Well, Bones and I got into the ring and sparred.”

“Why?”

“Because we had to settle some shit between us.”

“Shit? What shit?”

“Just had to come to an understanding,” Smoke said.

“What kind of understanding?”

“That he’s no longer allowed to pursue you. But try not to worry, black eyes come with the territory. There’s no bad blood here, we were just blowing off steam like brothers do.”

He smiled and instantly winced when his lip split open.

“Does it hurt?”

“Yep.”

“Want some ice?”

“A steak would be better,” he said.

“You should have told me while I was at the store.” My tone was snarky. “I would’ve bought an extra steak for your eye.”

“You made steak?”
