“Grady,” I snapped.

“Gotta talk to Killian. See you soon.”

He hung up and I lowered the phone from my ear.

“Mom?”

“Yeah?” She wouldn’t meet my gaze.

“Grady just said see you soon.”

“I heard. The volume was turned up so loud it might as well have been on speaker phone.”

“Mom!”

“They’re catching a flight later this afternoon,” she admitted.

“They? A flight? No…”

“Yes.”

“All of them?”

“All of them.”

“But, they can’t.”

“They can, and they are.” She gestured with her chin to my half-empty plate. “Finish up.”

I groaned. “They’re coming to Waco.”

“We’ve already established that they are.”

“But I don’t want them to.”

“Doesn’t really matter what you want, love. Grady got the idea in his head and the rest of them agreed. They want to see you and they want to meet Smoke.”

“No,” I protested. “This is bad.”

“This isn’t bad. They’ll like Smoke.”

“Do they know he’s seventeen years older than me?”

“They know.”

“Great. They’ll wait for Smoke to heal and then kill him. Wonderful.”

“Have a little faith.” She smiled. “Smoke did save your life. That counts for something.”

“And yet Dad can’t stop glaring at him every time they’re in the same room.”

“Hmm. You have a point.”

“You had breakfast without me?” Dad asked Mom as he closed the hotel door. “Morning, LoLo.”

“Hi, Dad.”
