“Lady of the hour,” Joni teased.
“Jazz and Brielle are on their way,” I announced.
“Should we go?” Allison asked. “There won’t be enough room for all of us.”
I pouted. “I don’t want you to go, but yeah, for the sake of space.”
It was a good thing they cleared out because on the heels of Brielle and Jazz arriving, so did the South Dakota boys.
“Are you okay?” Jazz asked me.
“I should be asking you that,” I said, taking her hand. “I haven’t had a chance to thank you or ask how it’s been for you since—”
Jazz waved her hand away. “Nothing a little tequila couldn’t fix.”
Brielle shot her a look.
“What?” Jazz demanded. “She doesn’t need to know I have nightmares.”
“You’re having nightmares?” I asked softly.
Jazz winced. “There was a lot of blood. And a…body.” She slid off the bakery box’s string and opened it. “We brought biscotti.”
“Can I get one of those,” Bones called out from the other side of the room. “I didn’t have breakfast.”
“I brought them for Smoke and Logan,” Jazz said.
“You can have one but you have to save at least one for me and Smoke,” I said to Bones. I looked at Jazz and said, “We have cookies, a gift basket, left over lasagna, chocolate pudding, whatever Allison brought. We’ll never get through all the food without help.”
Bones and the other South Dakota boys dove into the biscotti.
“I could do with a nice cappuccino,” Kelp added.
“For dunking,” Raze explained.
“There’s a coffee bar in the lobby,” Bones said.
“Just call room service,” I stated. “It’s easier.”
“Coffee and biscotti,” Bones said. “I’m becoming domesticated.”
Brielle whispered, “But not house trained.”
“I heard that,” Bones called out.
“How?” Brielle demanded. “I said it quietly.”
“I’ve got hearing like a bat, babe,” Bones touted, reaching for the phone.
Brielle rolled her eyes but smiled before turning back to me. “So, you and Smoke…”
“Yeah.” I nodded.
“You didn’t tell us.” Jazz pouted.
“We didn’t tell anyone,” I said.
“But we all knew,” Raze announced.
