“Intelligence isn’t your strong suit, is it, Harlan?” Smoke asked.

Dad slapped Smoke on the back. “Welcome to the family, son.”

“You’re taking Smoke’s side? Over your own flesh and blood?” Harlan asked. “Rude.”

Dad looked at Smoke when he said, “The man saved my daughter’s life. As far as I’m concerned, he is my own flesh and blood.”

Epilogue

A week later

Smoke

I watched Logan toss the bean bag and it landed in one of the holes in the old painted wood. She whooped in excitement and Waverly hugged her eagerly.

Across the lawn, Tavy and Sailor glowered and went to gather the bean bags. Sailor tossed the first bean bag and it landed on the wooden plank and slid off into the grass.

Logan started heckling Tavy and Sailor until Tavy lost her temper and began to march toward Logan. Logan immediately began to retreat, laughing as she did. But Tavy had a good arm and beaned her in the back.

I laughed when Logan turned after being hit and went on the offense.

Logan and I had seen the house and agreed it was the right one for us. I’d put in an offer and it was accepted immediately. But closing paperwork was going to take weeks to work its way through the banks, so we were crashing at Willa and Duke’s for the time being. We were staying in the guest house because it was only one floor, and climbing stairs wasn’t in my immediate future.

We’d displaced Waverly and Sailor who were now sleeping in a spare room, but neither of them minded because they both had become low-key obsessed with Logan and wanted to do her the favor.

It was a full house, people coming and going constantly, and Savage stayed with them more often lately than at the clubhouse.

“She seems happy,” Savage said as he lifted the bottle of beer to his lips.

“She is happy,” I said.

“She sleeping okay?”

I shrugged. “On and off.”

“She jump when you touch her?”

“No.”

He nodded.

Logan would start therapy next week, but that was her shit to share only if she wanted to. I could talk to her, but there were things she’d need to discuss with someone who did that sort of thing for a living.

“So, the club going legit…” Savage began. “You as bored as I am?”

I cracked a grin. “Looking for trouble?”

“Always.” He looked at me. “You’re not bored?”

“Nope. Not even a little.”

“That’s because you got a woman.”

“A good woman,” I clarified. “Maybe you should find a good woman.”

He looked in the direction of Tavy.

“Don’t you fucking dare.”
