“Your mother,” I said. “She knew it was your favorite.”

It looked nothing like the gargantuan, gaudy piece of shit her ex-fiancé had bought her. This ring was elegant, but unique. The band was a rose gold vine, a diamond nestled among the leaves. The vine pattern matched the one I’d had Roman tattoo on my finger.

“I love you, cupcake,” I said. “I thought about waiting to propose until I could actually get down on one knee without moaning in pain…”

She hastily covered her mouth but couldn’t conceal the giggle that escaped.

“But I can’t wait, cupcake. I love you.”

Her eyes shined with unshed tears.

“I was yours the moment I saw you,” she said softly. “I just didn’t know it yet. And I don’t care if you get down on one knee.”

I grasped the back of her neck and pulled her toward me. “Marry me, cupcake.”

“On one condition.”

“Name it.”

“You tell Edith and Harry the truth. They’re going to have some questions when they get our wedding invitation.”

“I can handle Edith and Harry.” I laughed and slipped the ring onto her finger. “Kiss me, Logan. Kiss me like you can’t live without me.”

Her gaze softened. “I can’t, Smoke. I can’t live without you.”

I cradled the back of her head. “You’ll never have to.”
