“Maybe I don’t want to talk about it.” I shut the curtain and dowsed myself under the spray.
“What if I want to talk about it?”
“Smoke,” I pled. “Please, just drop it. We had sex. It was great. Now I’d like to shower in peace.”
He fell silent and I hoped that meant he was going to leave. But I was wrong because he said, “I’m going to take a shot in the dark and say you regret what happened between us.”
If I truly wanted to put Knox behind me, to no longer give him power over me, I had to face the truth.
“No,” I said quietly. “I don’t regret what we just did. I just…it’s a lot, okay?”
“That’s all I needed to know.” I heard his heavy footsteps as he trekked toward the door.
“Wait.”
His retreat stopped.
“I changed my mind.”
“About?”
“Will you shower with me?”
He paused for only a moment before he said, “Yeah. I’ll shower with you.”
Chapter 13
Smoke stepped into the shower behind me. I rinsed the soap from my body and then gave him use of the shower spray.
He turned his back to me and I gasped.
“What?” he asked as his face was under the water.
“I made you bleed!”
Smoke looked at me over his shoulder and grinned. “Yeah?”
“Yeah. God, I’m sorry.”
“I’ll live, you saucy little minx.”
“You didn’t just call me a minx.”
“I did. Because you are.”
“I guess I was out of my mind with pleasure,” I murmured.
“Unhinged.” He turned and gave his back to the water, and when he did, he grimaced in pain. He reached out to cradle my face in his hands. “I like you unhinged.”
You bring out the beast in me.
I gently eased away from him and grabbed the soap. “Let me clean your battle wounds.”
“Battle? If that was the battle, what will the war be like?”
“Should we find out?”
He grinned. “Definitely.”
