I quickly dialed Charlie, hoping like hell she answered.
“Hey,” she said after the second ring.
“I’m about to have sex with Bones for the first time and I’m terrified.”
She was silent.
“Charlie?” I pressed.
“Let me take you off speaker phone,” she said finally.
“Speaker phone?” I screeched. “Who are you with? Oh God, please tell me you’re not with Savage.”
“I’m not with Savage,” she said. “That’s done. Over. Kaput.”
“Okay, we can talk about you later, right now we need to talk about me. And who just heard me admit that to you?”
“Waverly,” she said. “And Sailor. And Waverly’s boyfriend, Dylan.”
I groaned.
“I’m sorry, but I had Waverly answer my phone because my hands were occupied.”
“Occupied with what? And why are you with Waverly and company?”
“Waverly’s helping me with the dollhouse. Sailor and Dylan are here because—well, I don’t know why they’re here.”
“We’re always here,” Dylan said in the background.
“I’m at Waverly’s shop and we’re restoring the dollhouse.”
“Neat. Can you go someplace private? I need a pep talk. A pep talk I don’t want them to hear.”
“Let me go outside,” Charlie said. There was rustling and the opening of a door and then she said, “Okay. I’m out of earshot now. So, you’re going all the way with Bones. I think that’s great.”
“Yeah. Except, I’m sitting in my bedroom in a La Perla white lace body suit waiting for my biker to come over and…and…”
“Rip the white lace body suit off you with his teeth?”
“Oh God, I’m gonna faint.”
“Now would be the time to have a glass of wine.”
“I can’t. You know I can’t.”
I heard the distant rumble of a motorcycle.
“Crap. He’s almost here.”
“Okay, I don’t have a lot of time. So, here’s what you’re going to do…”
“I’m listening.”
“You’re going to pretend that you’re one of the great femme fatales of all time. You’re going to get him on his knees and make him beg to let him pleasure you. You got that?”
“I got that.” I swallowed. “But I’m more Audrey Hepburn than Marilyn Monroe.”
