I draw in a breath and hold it before huffing it out hard. Meeting her gaze, I slap my hands to the desk and say, “Fuck if I know, and it’s why I called you in. I’m admitting you’re better than me at fixing messes.” I push my laptop toward her. “Please, Juls. Fix this before we lose the biggest client we’ve ever had.”

She bites her lip and feathers her hands through her hair. “I’ll get it all taken care of. If I can’t—”

My hands fly up, and I shake my head from side to side. “No, Julia. That’s not an option. You must fix this.” I grab her hand and tug hard.

Her hand tightens on mine, and she grabs my other one. “I’m sure I can, but—”

My eyes slam shut, and I beg her. “No buts, none. Please. I’ll give you whatever the hell you want. Just fix this goddamn fucking mess.” I pull her in and swallow her body with my arms. She has to fix this mess because I know Cillian will kill her first to make me suffer before he kills me.

Her warm breath against me sends an electric pulse to my cock, making me hard. I still love my wife, but now isn’t the time to suddenly want to fuck her. Not that she’d have me since she thinks I cheated again. I tried to tell her it wasn’t what she thought, but she won’t listen. She needs time and her book club. I know I’m an asshole, but I didn’t cheat that day in my office, and I won’t ever cheat on her again.

I release her from my embrace and gently push her back.

She takes my hand and meets my gaze again. “I’ve got this. Don’t worry. I’ll get it fixed, promise.” She steps toward me and kisses my forehead like a parent kisses their child. “I’ll be in my office and will let you know when I’m finished clearing it up.” She slips the laptop under her arm. Grabbing her purse and bag, she turns toward me as she opens my office door. “I’ll talk to you soon.” She steps out and closes the door. Her heels click-clack down the hallway to her office four doors from mine.

My phone pings with Cillian’s sound. He’s one of the owners of Club Wonderland. I hoped to have this problem resolved before any of them called me about it.

In my office, I lock the door, yank the cord on the privacy blinds, then walk to my desk and place Decklan’s laptop down. Sitting in my brown leather office chair, I wake my phone and read Cillian’s text: Julia, make sure this is handled properly. I won’t tolerate a fuck up. Our clients expect excellent care and complete privacy. Your life could depend on the outcome.

I text him back so he doesn’t bother me all day. Of course, I will. No worries. I’ll let you know as soon as I’ve fixed the issue.

I blow out a breath and reread Cillian’s text. His strong godlike personality comes through clearly, but I’m not worried.

Placing my phone face down, I open the laptop and begin the tedious work of searching for the breach and the hacker’s footprint. They always leave something even though they think they don’t.

Six hours later, I managed to ascertain the breach didn’t go completely through to Club Wonderland’s servers. The hackers were extremely close to capturing the club’s list of clients because all of Decklan’s firewalls were breached, but my last firewall didn’t fail. I set it up like that on purpose. The perpetrators believe they hit the jackpot and have the club’s super-secret list, but what they have is a list of dead people. I laugh.

I begin the process of reestablishing Decklan’s firewalls and a few more of my own, then a new fake list to protect Club Wonderland’s precious real client list. If these names ever get out, what a real clusterfuck it would be. And we’d be dead.

Satisfied with my work, I wake my phone and text Cillian. Taken care of. It won’t happen again.

Cillian’s text comes immediately. It better never happen or even come close to happening again. It’s your ass on the line.

Rolling my eyes as I read his text, I almost respond, then think better of it. It’s best to let this type of man think they have all the control. If we cross paths, I’ll be sure to stroke his ego just right. Men, boys— they’re all putty in my hands.

I send Decklan a text: All done.

Leaning back in my chair, I put my legs up on my desk and cross my ankles just as Decklan barges in.

He swipes my legs from my desk and yanks me into his arms. He smothers me with grateful kisses for what seems like forever.

I cringe inside as D keeps kissing me. I pat him forcefully and say, “Decklan, please stop. We’re at work.” I use being here as an excuse to get him to let me go. I remind myself of his recent cheat, right here in our business.

He stops and holds me by my shoulders.

“I owe you everything, Juls. You literally saved my ass. Cillian was fucking ready… I don’t know what he’d do, but fuck, Julia.”

I take a step and cup his cheeks. “No worries. I had it all under control.” Leaning, I kiss his forehead.

“You probably saved our lives and the company. You’re my queen.” He stands and wraps his arms around me, lifting me, then twirling us around my office.

“Okay, D. Now put me down.” I pat his firm chest. “Is there any other crisis you need me to fix? Or can I go home and get ready for my book club?”

“That’s all. I don’t know what I’d do without you.” He takes my hands in his and brings them to his lips, kissing my knuckles. “Go home and get ready. Thanks for saving everything.”

I gather my phone, purse, and bag and walk toward my office door with Decklan in tow. Turning when I get to the exit of our office building, I say, “Enjoy your basketball game with the guys tonight.” I touch his arm and give it a soft pinch.

He takes my hand again, squeezing it gently. Before letting me go, he says, “Let’s go out on a date. Let me spoil you for saving our entire business. No, let me spoil you because I love you, Juls. You’re everything to me, I swear.” He lets go of my hand and crosses his chest with his fingers.
