Layne should have been feeling an unholy rage inside of her toward Franzetti, but instead, all she could do was keep looking at Joey in awe that she wasn’t robbed of ever seeing him again.

“I should have had things handled, but-”

“Shh.” He pressed a tattooed finger to her mouth to stop her right there. “We aren’t doing this. We aren’t doing the blame game. What is going to happen is you are staying here tonight. I’m not letting you out of my sight. Everything else will get dealt with tomorrow.”

She let out a quiet sigh as she gently moved his finger away from her lips. “I’m ok, Joey. Really. I don’t need to stay here.”

“It’s not up for debate, so shut that gorgeous mouth and deal. I will go get you some dry clothes.”

Her energy was entirely spent after the evening, and arguing with him was looking less and less like a priority. Allowing Joey to get the final say this time, she let him take care of her just this once. One time couldn’t hurt anything.

After getting her his old Slipknot t-shirt, he gave her privacy to change while he walked around his apartment securing every possible entry. He came back into the room to see that the size of the shirt swallowed her up. Even in that oversized shirt, she made it look hot as hell.

He got Layne tucked into his bed, lying next to her until she fell asleep. His hand rubbed up and down her back soothingly while he studied each of the features of her face. Joey vowed that he was never going to let anyone try and take her from him again, he couldn’t let that happen.

CHAPTER TWELVE

Morning rolled around and Layne rolled right into Joey’s side as she began to feel her slumber fade away. Half-asleep, she curled up against him and draped an arm over the smoothness of his bare stomach. He lay there on his back, shirtless with the top sheet loosely draped over his lower half.

Protectively, Joey drew his arm around her shoulders, pulling her in even closer. When she opened her eyes and lifted her head to take a look at him, his soft brown eyes were already open and staring at her.

The tattoos inked across his skin were now on full display before her. Various designs and images sprawled in a sleeve over his left arm, onto the back of his shoulder out of sight, across his toned chest with one-offs branching off down his ribs and up his neck. Of the splashing of multiple images across his skin’s canvas that stood out the most, she saw various scenes of bloody skulls and roses, birds, and the words ‘Chaos Addict.’

Joey smiled in amusement; his other arm tucked behind his head. “Good morning.”

Layne cracked a smile. “What’s so funny?”

He shook his head. “Nothing.”

“Tell me!” She gave a shove to his side, prompting a laugh from him.

“You have the cutest little snores I’ve ever heard.”

“I don’t snore!” She propped herself up on one arm hoping it would help solidify her defense.

“Whatever you say. I know what I heard.”

Her eyes looked him over, becoming suddenly aware of his lack of clothes. Layne appreciated the sight of each of the muscles on display in front of her like a heavenly buffet. Joey didn’t interrupt her as her eyes drank in the view, but he did pull her up on top of him.

Her legs spread to straddle over his hips as she got comfortable in the new position. Her hands rested on top of the chest she had just been admiring seconds ago. He reached up and tucked a section of her hair back behind her ear. “You know, this is not what I expected for your first time spending the night with me.”

Layne tilted her head. “Oh?”

“I imagined a lot less clothes.” His smirk oozed with charm at her.

Leaning over onto her forearms as she sat atop of him. “Don’t worry, you wouldn’t have gotten that lucky last night.”

“I find that very hard to believe by the way you were trying to climb me in the elevator.”

She smirked back at him and rubbed herself teasingly over his hips where she could already feel the growth of his morning wood pressed up against her, begging for attention. “I don’t give it up on the first date, too many bad apples to waste the effort on.”

His hands latched onto her hips as he pulled her down harder against him with a groan of approval. “Good thing I’m counting this morning as our second date.”

“Mmm.” Layne bit her lower lip as the sensation of grinding against him had her panties soaked with her own arousal.

Her hands slid down over the tanned skin of his stomach, fighting every urge inside of her to just give in. Leaning down onto him, she lightly kissed his lips, feeling the stubble around his mouth scratch at her face with a bit of a tickle.

“I don’t give it up on the second date either, but a third date? That might be the charm.” The glimmer of playfulness shone in her green eyes.
