"Yeah, we need to have this conversation before she gets home, too," Michael says.

"Okay," I say. "Let me go first. Mine won’t take long." I need their help in planning something great, but I have a good idea and I just need their help making it happen.

"Ours is pretty important," Nathan says, sitting up straighter on the couch. "Let us go first."

I frown and set the bowl of popcorn down. "Mine’s serious. We don’t know when she’ll be home and I really don’t want to put it off."

"Same here," Michael says, sitting forward and bracing his forearms on his thighs. "We really need to talk about this."

"I’m going to propose."

"You need to propose."

Nathan and I speak at the same time. We look at each other. Then I look at Michael.

"That’s what you wanna talk about?" I look at Nathan. "You wanna talk about me proposing?"

"You want to propose?" Nathan asks.

"Of course I do. That’s what I want to talk about. I have a plan and everything. But I need you guys to help."

Michael grins. "Thank God."

"Please tell me you’re not surprised," I tell him.

"Not surprised. Just happy you’re ready," he says.

"But you guys weren’t sure and were going to tell me I needed to propose?" I should maybe feel like they're pushing or interfering. But that’s not how this feels. I feel a warmth in my chest.

"It’s time," Nathan says. "We gave you space, we let you think it through. But it’s obvious you want to be here. We’re family. You’re not going anywhere. You need to give Danielle that commitment. You know she wants it."

"And it’s kind of starting to piss us off that you are not willing to marry our wife," Michael says. "We want her happiness more than anything and that includes your ring on her finger." Michael pauses after that, seems to think about what he said, looks at both of us and grins. "Well, that sounded fucking weird."

Both Nathan and I grin.

"The thing is," I say. "It didn’t really sound weird."

Nathan nods, then blows out a breath. "It didn’t. McNeill, we want you to marry our wife."

I chuckle. "Well, I really want to fucking marry your wife, so I guess that’s good."

Nathan shakes his head. "And to think a few months ago I was going crazy in my office thinking about either of you even taking her to dinner."

I agree. "We’ve all come a long way. I want to be a husband and a father. You’ve come around to having an entire family and sharing not just a house and couch, but everything. And Hughes…" I look over at Michael. "Actually, you’re pretty much the same."

Nathan nods. "Of course he is. He’s our rock. He’s always gonna be the same. Thank God."

Michael chuckles softly. "Maybe in a lot of ways, but I’ve changed too. I always thought I knew exactly what my future looked like. Traditional. The wife, and kids, house, a dog. Never would’ve expected you two." He looks at us both with warmth in his eyes. "But this is even better than anything I imagined."

"Fuck yeah it is," Nathan agrees.

I pull in a long breath. "So, because I made her wait, I’m thinking I need to do a really huge grand gesture proposal."

Nathan rolls his eyes. "It has nothing to do with you making her wait. Of course you think you need to do a huge, over-the-top, crazy-ass proposal. That’s just you."

Well, he’s got a point.

Michael nods. "If you didn’t propose in some crazy way, Dani would think something was wrong."
