“Aside from this, are you doing okay?” Jolie asked.

I took my pill and nodded. “Things are going well.”

“I’m glad to hear it,” she said and reached into the back of the cabinet next to us, pushing things aside until she got to the very back.

I watched curiously, waiting to see what she grabbed.

“Ah!” she exclaimed and pulled out a box of chocolate covered cookies. “I was saving these and I have to hide them so Fox doesn’t find them, or he will eat them all.”

I took one, crunched on it a bit, and around a full mouth said, “So delicious.”

“Right?” she exclaimed. “So good.”

“I need a stock of these at the house,” I said as I looked at the cookie.

“I’ll send Riddick the link and hint that you like them.” She winked. “They like doing things that they think you don’t know about and that make you happy.”

“Good to know,” I replied.

“So, tell me about it,” she urged.

I blinked at her. She … wanted me to tell her about sleeping with her son.

Seeing my expression, she laughed and said, “Tell me about the anniversary and the mating bonds.”

“Oh,” I breathed, finished my water to wash the cookie down, and launched into a full description for her, minus the sex parts.

She gasped when I mentioned Caleb laughing, but then smiled after I explained what happened next. “I’m so glad it all worked out, though not exactly like you had planned.”

“Me, too,” I said and sighed. “Though now I’m terrified about the fertility issue. It’s not that I don’t want kids, but …”

She nodded. “I get it. And don’t worry, the pills should sort it out.”

“I wish I had been warned in advance,” I said, “but we’ll just move forward as we are.” There were always things you couldn’t control and didn’t know about, and I would be damned if I let it affect my mood.

“Let’s go grab the boxes so you can take them back with you,” she said and shoved another cookie in her mouth. “You can’t look at yours until Caleb puts it on you.”

I drew an x over my heart. “Promise.”

And I definitely would keep it. I really didn’t want to look at the crown she had had designed for me. It might send me into a panic yet again.

Chapter

Ten

Trusting, Branson, and I stood outside the gates of our pack lands, dressed nicely and waiting. Kieran, Ambrose, and Sheila were also with us, the first ones outside of our pack to join the clan.

Caleb and Riddick walked towards us, wearing nice shirts and slacks, and making my mouth water.

"Are you ready?" I asked with a wide smile.

Caleb shrugged. "Ready as I'll ever be." He stood before the symbol on the gate, and smoothed his shirt down. We had decided having the pictures in front of our symbol would be the best for posting.

Branson pulled out his phone, ready to take photos for our posts and to send to the media representatives that Jolie had set up.

Taking Caleb's crown out of the box, I walked up to him, smiling wide, and said, "As your mate, I am so proud and excited to crown you as our king. By placing this crown upon your head, I hereby crown you, King Caleb Fireclaw of the Hybrids." I had asked Fox for Caleb's full elven name to use for this event. It seemed appropriate as a hybrid to use our full names.

“I, Caleb Fireclaw, vow to do everything in my power to protect our people, provide a safe and welcoming clan, and rule fairly and justly.”
