“Mad at me?” he says with a smile. I slap his chest.

“Yes, mad at you. I don’t like this. Fucking engaged to stupid ass Paulie as part of your plan? Walking into it without any kind of knowledge?”

“It’s not like I’m doing this as punishment, Lilah. It’s not like this is a walk in the park for me, knowing the world will think you’re his when you’re undoubtedly mine.” His hands frame my face. “I want to scream about us from the rooftops and I want you by my side, but we need to do this first. We need to make this world safe for us.”

“It’s still some plan you didn’t tell me about before throwing it at me.” I take a breath, my body lying on his making a deep breath difficult. “No more, Dante. No more secrets. I know everything from here on out.”

He stares at me, reading my face.

I stare back before continuing.

“I’m serious. From now on, I want to know it all. This plan . . . it’s no longer just yours. It’s ours. I get not wanting me to look nervous. I get not wanting me to stress in case it didn’t amount to anything. But I still should have known. That wasn’t fair to me, to throw it at me like that and hope I reacted well. When he called you that morning, you didn’t say a word to me about it. Drove me all the way back from Lake George playing fuckin’ question and answer.”

His hand wraps in my hair and gives it a playful tug. “I love question and answer with you. It’s how we started, after all.” I give him a you know what I mean look and the smile fades. “You’re right,” he says. “Next time, you’re in on it.” I fight the smile. I didn’t expect him to concede so easily, so I’ll call this a win.

“I’m in on everything, Dante. From now on. I’m your wife.

“You are, aren’t you?” he asks, grabbing my hand and pressing a kiss to the ring he put on my finger. His words have gone soft, his lips tipping up, and I can tell I lost him there. Any chance of having a real conversation is gone because he’s so lost to the idea of his wife.

I give him a small smile and shake my head because I kind of love that—how calling myself his wife put that look on his face.

The daydream look, the look of potential. Of happiness. Of future.

“I am. And you’re my husband. Which means no more secrets.”

“No more secrets, Lilah,” he says with promise in his voice before he rolls me over and proceeds to remind me just how a husband treats his wife.

-Lilah-

Heat is pouring through my body as my mind drifts out of the fog of a deep sleep.

I’m warm all over, my breathing heavy.

A moan falls from my lips as something warm grazes my clit, and a low chuckle hits my ears.

My eyes open slowly just as Dante slides two fingers into me. As they focus, I catch his eyes watching as his mouth sucks on my clit. The unexpected pleasure forces me to arch my back off the bed.

“Oh my god,” I whisper, my voice still groggy with sleep, and Dante laughs, the vibrations running through me. “Oh my god.”

His eyes are still smiling as his fingers crook, my body responding instantly, and I wonder how long this has been going on, how long he’s been teasing my body to get me this fucking ready for him already.

I’m on the edge and I’ve barely even opened my eyes.

He knows, of course.

Dante always knows.

His mouth disengages from my clit, and he looks up at me with that smile, the one that makes him look young and carefree, but I can’t focus on that.

It’s the words he says.

It’s always the words with him.

The words he says to heat my mind, my soul, my body in ways I didn’t realize were even possible.

“You’re going to come on my face, fiorella. Then as you’re coming, I’m going to move and slide into you and fuck you to say good morning.” My teeth bite into my lower lip at the thought of a good morning fuck.
