I turn my head and look around – everything is peaceful, and my warriors are awake. They look at me and nod, acknowledging that I woke up. I am glad that they decided to stay awake while I was asleep with my sunshine. I am not tired anymore, so I motion for them to go to sleep and to get some rest before morning, so that we will be able to continue in the morning with new and fresh start.
As they fall asleep, I realize that I am the only person who is awake here. Even the horses are sleeping. The bad and sad hours are away, and now we are ready to face the new day, the new times, the new future – a future that I would never imagine I would have before I met Elsie.
Darah McDougald will be surprised to see me with my fiancee and will be happy to give his consent to our marriage. I can already imagine how beautiful Elsie will be on our wedding day. Sloan and Megan will also come to attend the wedding ceremony. We can even ask Ainslee to come. And Skena will also be there, to help Elsie get ready.
My smile widens as I start to imagine all of that in detail. Great and wonderful things are going to happen in the near future, and I wish the morning comes fast, so that the future will be here soon.
Chapter 13
Elsie
I have never slept so comfortably than the previous night. I have slept the entire evening, as well as the night, all the time reclining on Calem. I take a deep breath as I enjoy the breakfast by the stream in the morning. The scent of the flowers and the fresh grass is magical. Each day is better than the previous one.
'I want to know, is there a better day than this one?' I ask Calem, who is sitting next to me, looking at the scream. He has finished his breakfast and is just relaxing by my side.
'Of course,' he says. 'All of our days are going to be better than the previous one.'
'And is that even possible?' I ask him. 'Until when?'
'Until eternity,' he smiles. 'There is no limit to the good. It is like the numbers – there is no limit.'
'My heart will become like a big balloon that is filled with air, only that it will be filled with love and happiness,' I smile. 'If the good feelings are going to be endless then I cannot imagine where we will be in, let's say, a month.'
'In a month? Hmm, let me think,' he says, narrowing his eyes, pretending to be thinking. I giggle. 'In a month we will be living in our own house on our own lands and loving each other every single day.'
'I know. And it is so good that I cannot wait for that day to come,' I reply.
'No, my sunshine, it is a wrong thing to do,' he looks at me with lots of love in his eyes. 'You must feel and enjoy each and every day, and not let the days pass without living them, while you are waiting for a particular day to come.'
I nod. He is so right.
'Calem, I enjoy this, too,' I say at last, after finishing my meal. 'This is also happiness for me. I love you, and I love everything that I do with you. I love the horse-riding that we do together, I love the breakfasts that I share with you, I love the evenings when I recline on you and fall asleep. I love just being with you. I am so happy.'
Calem moves closer and hugs me. 'I love you, too, my sunshine, and you make me happy by shining from happiness brighter than the sun that is in the sky. It is the other sun. You are the real sun for me.'
I melt from his words. He can be so fierce with enemies, and yet so romantic and gentle with me that he can totally melt me with his words and his touches. His strict eyes get filled with childish joy when he looks at me, and he looks with that gaze only at me. I am so lucky to be the one whom he loves so much. I hug him and stay in that position for some time without saying anything, knowing well that we must get going soon, as we do not have much time to spend in the nature. We will still have much time to spend however we want, but right now we do not have much food, so it would be better if we reached the Gherland Castle sooner than later.
'My love, maybe we will start moving? The weather is nice,' I tell him gently. 'We can ride till dinnertime.'
