I pushed that thought out of my mind as fast as possible. No, I would not think about that asshole tonight. This evening would be a douche free zone.

The doorbell rang, and I squared my shoulders. I could do this. I could go on a date with a man who I was pretty sure was some kind of sex God, and I could be charming, and witty, and all the things I was before I let myself be torn down by a petty asshole.

The gold bangles on my wrist jingled as I swung open the door with a smile plastered on my face. A smile that turned into a gape as I almost swallowed my tongue. So far, I’d seen work Tyler, surfer Tyler, and naked Tyler. Now, it looked like I was getting date night Tyler. Dressed in a mint green collared shirt that clung to his broad shoulders and thick biceps, he also wore a pair of gray shorts that showed off his muscular tanned legs. At Club Wicked he seemed more intense, now his blue eyes were filled with heat as he returned my hungry stare with one of his own. I swear, the difference between suit wearing Master Skyler and Tyler the surfer was so extreme, it was like realizing Clark Kent was Superman. The sun was beginning to set, and the amber light made his hair appear darker, but the blond scruff on his chin glimmered as he smiled at me.

When he shifted and my gaze returned to his face, he said in his deep yummy voice, “You look amazing. So pretty my heart just about stopped in my chest there for a second.”

Blushing hard, I muttered, “Thank you.”

“Hi, Tyler,” Shyla called from inside,

“Hey, Shyla,” he hollered back then grinned at me, “Are you ready to go?”

“Sure, let me just get my stuff. I’ll be right back.”

I darted inside, grabbing my pale blue purse from the hook in the foyer. Shyla waited for me there, typing something on her phone as she shuffled over to me in her socked feet. Her wild brown and black curls were up in her usual messy bun, and she had dark circles under her eyes.

“Honey,” I said in a soft voice, “get some sleep while I’m gone, okay? You’re going to burn out if you keep up this pace.”

“I know,” she muttered to her phone before putting it down with a sigh. “It’s just, I feel like if I do just a little bit more, then I can finally relax. But, as soon as that little bit is done, I see something else I feel I can squeeze in.”

“What you need to squeeze in is some sleep. Turn off all that shit and take a nap. The world won’t burn down if you don’t answer your texts for an hour.”

“You’d think it would.” She gave me a quick hug. “Have fun tonight. Call me if you need anything at all, or if you plan on spending the night. Of course you’re welcome to come back here; our bedrooms are a floor apart so you can be as loud as you want. Just tell Tyler to wear clothes if he plans on cooking us breakfast.”

“Cooking us breakfast? Little presumptuous to assume that he’ll not only land in my bed tonight, but will cook for us, isn’t it?” I asked as I swung my purse over my shoulder.

She shrugged, “Hey, I need to get some kind of perks. Lord knows, I haven’t had the time to date and won’t for, like, the next five years. Need to get my thrills where I can, chica!”

“Go to sleep,” I said again as I walked away.

She ignored me, so I locked the door behind me and set the code. Tyler leaned against his SUV waiting for me. He watched me come down the steps, his braced forearms resting on the hood, the muscles flexing as he slowly pushed himself off. Moving to meet me at the passenger side of the car, he watched as I batted away a stray hair that wanted to float into my eyes. The wind coming off the ocean was strong today, and it scented the air between us as he cupped my face with both of his hands.

While some might find his rugged looks too harsh to be handsome, I thought he was the hottest man I’d ever seen. The sunlight painted deep shadows on his jaw and cheekbones, turning his blue eyed gaze dark as he spun me so I was in the light. Blinking against its brightness, I didn’t see him coming until I felt the gentle pressure of his soft lips against mine.

My brain, my heart, the very breath in my lungs froze as a cascade of warmth like I’d never experienced rushed over me.

The wind blew harder, as if urging me into his arms, and I let myself be held by Tyler as I practically swooned into his kiss. His hands were big and rough with calluses, but he was so careful as he held my face that I felt protected and cherished rather than smothered. That need to wrap myself in him started to build, made all the more fierce as his tongue parted my lips and I sucked on the tip. He tasted as good as he felt, and I wrapped my arms around his strong neck.
