As I was researching the medical background to this novel, I found myself incredibly conflicted about the choices my characters were making. With each point of view I wrote, I ended up agreeing with that person! With all the information I learned about fatal conditions and end-of-life care, I realized there are no right answers in these heartbreaking situations. At the end of it all, there is only hope—and I truly believe that can be found in the strangest and darkest of places.
