I break our kiss to catch my breath. “What happens tomorrow, John?” The words escape in a whoosh. “You don’t mix work and love.” I don’t want to ruin the moment, but I need to know that tomorrow he won’t pretend this didn’t happen.

“If I have my way, tomorrow, you’ll wake up in my arms, and we’ll make love all day, and if I can convince you to be mine, you’ll no longer work for me, you’ll work beside me.”

I can hardly breathe. Not less than an hour ago, I was thinking of ways to sabotage his date, and now, I am his date. He’s done all of this for me.

Silence fills the air, and after a glance around, I realize the quartet has packed up and left. “Where did everyone go?”

“They were only here for a moment, sweetheart. Just long enough to set the scene. We’re alone now. Are you hungry? Do you want to dance more? I could put on some music and hold you in my arms all night.”

I lay my head on his firm chest and run my hands up the lapels of his jacket.

“I’d like to explore my options,” I say as I reach up and nip at his ear.

“Oh God, you’re killing me. You’ve been killing me for two years.”

“Why did you wait so long? I’ve been in love with you forever.”

“You know me, I had to make sure it was perfect. I wasn’t sure of your interest until New Year’s Eve, and then I didn’t want to lose you if I was reading you wrong. What are you thinking now?”

“I think you think too much. Will the food hold?”

“Yes, it’s in the warmer.” He caresses his hands down my bare arms.

“Are you saying you love me?” I hold my breath waiting for his answer.

“Yes, I’ve loved you forever.”

“Then who is the girl on your phone?”

“She’s my cousin. Were you jealous?”

“Yes.” I was beyond jealous. “You can make it up to me.” I tilt my head coyly.

“What do you want, baby?”

“Make love to me.”

I wear my blue dress and glass-like shoes for a short time. A moment later, he has me lying naked on his bed, devouring me with his hungry eyes. He shrugs off his suit jacket, and I watch intently as he pulls his silver tie free and unbuttons his freshly starched sh

irt.

Real life is so much better than fiction. When he drops his pants, I am awestruck. The moment our bodies touch, sparks ignite. He nips and nibbles at my neck and breasts until I beg for more.

“I love you, Ann. I will always love you.” He smooths on a condom and sinks himself into my body, I feel whole for the first time in years. We move as one. Every thrust feels like a declaration of love. Every gasp and moan are my answers in return. I love him too.

The shaking feeling that ribbons up my body starts at my knees and shakes me to the core. He takes me higher and higher until I cascade over the edge, quivering in his arms. Moments later, he spills his heat inside me.

We lay intertwined—two bodies in one mass. It is hard to tell where he begins and I end. We have become one.

I must have dozed because the room is dark when the aroma of my favorite foods snake past me. The bed dips and the soft glow of a lamp lights the room.

“Hungry?” John sits on the bed with a tray of my favorites in his lap. He brushes my hair from my face and tucks the wild strands behind my ears. “You’re so damn beautiful.”

“I’m going to have to set up an eye exam for you.” I sit up and look at the bare-chested man in front of me. He is perfection.

He begins to feed me a bite of each dish, but I’m not hungry for food. I have a two-year-old unsatisfied sexual appetite to fill.

“You’re serving me?” I ask. “My job has been to serve you.”
