He smiled at me and whispered, “I was just thinking the same thing.”
Riley joined us a minute later and said, “Congratulations, guys. This is all just fantastic! I feel lucky to be a part of it.”
I gave him a hug and said, “I’m glad you’re here.” Another friend stepped through the crowd a moment later and congratulated us, and I thanked him and said, “Gabriel, meet Riley.”
When they turned to look at each other, Riley whispered, “Angel.”
Gabriel’s breath caught, and he grabbed him in an embrace and exclaimed, “Oh my God, Riley! I never thought I’d see you again!” Something huge was clearly unfolding between the two of them, so I took Lorenzo’s hand, and we snuck off to give them some privacy.
When we were out of earshot, Lorie asked, “What was that about?”
“I’m pretty sure we just witnessed a miracle. Riley spent years looking for his long-lost Angel, and it seems he just found him. Oh hey, I suddenly got the nickname—the angel Gabriel.”
“Nice.”
We ended up ducking around the corner of the building so we’d have a few moments to ourselves, and Lorie took me in his arms and kissed me. Then he asked, “Do you think we should get married here at the ranch?”
“No question.”
“We’ll fly your parents out and make sure they have so much fun that they never want to leave.”
“That’s an excellent plan.”
He kissed me again, and then he asked, “Do you know how happy you’ve made me?”
I flashed him a big smile. “If I had to guess, I’d say as happy as you’ve made me.”
We began to sway to the music, even though none was playing. It was early evening, and the sky was purple. About ten yards away, a bison intruder munched contentedly on Beck’s landscaping, and the sound of our friends laughing and celebrating drifted all around us.
Lorenzo said, “There’s magic in the air tonight.”
I nodded and put my head on his chest. “That’s absolutely true.”
