He remained quiet, almost pouting.

“Not even a little bit?”

He shrugged. “Maybe a little. Specifically, the part where you admitted you’re mine.”

I cupped his stubbled jaw and kissed his lips. “I love you.”

He grunted in response, deepening the kiss and then pulling back.

“Are you ready to go home, Mrs. Lykaios?”

I smiled up at my gorgeous, broody, overprotective, and a bit possessive husband who loved me enough to spend our time in the Seychelles pretending we were meeting for the first time.

“Absolutely, Mr. Lykaios. I loved every minute of our honeymoon, but I look forward to spending the rest of my life with you.”

“I’m glad you feel that way.” He pulled me into the crook of his arm, brushing his lips against my forehead. “You’re my everything, Starlight.”

“Back at you.” My heart overflowed with love for this man. “Being with you is the sweetest sin.”

The automatic sliding doors open, and I walk through them with the same feeling I imagine I would have if I was walking into the eternal flames of Hell.

Because, let’s face it, that’s exactly what the mall is. Hell.

The assault to my senses is as immediate as it is unwelcome, and I resist the urge to turn and bolt, as though I am being chased by a feral unicorn who has just now realized it’s the spirit animal of every tween girl in the world and is kind of pissed about it.

I don’t though. Because Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and I’m a fucking gentleman who believes in love and chivalry. That includes buying all of the important women in my life a token of my appreciation.

I mentally scan my list as I fight my way through the buzzing crowd, making a note not to forget Mom again. I’m pretty sure she didn’t buy my “It’s on back order” excuse last year. Especially since I get her the same chocolates every year.

I look up and peer over the crowd, trying to remember which direction the jewelry store is when a pissy faced man in a suit—why one would need to be in a suit while shopping at the mall this early on a Saturday morning gives me a moment of pause—with his eyes glued to a smartphone bumps into me, wrenching my shoulder.

I level him with a glare, but he’s oblivious to everything around him and continues on completely unaware
