She lifts her coffee mug, sips, then points it at me. “He slip something into your drink?”

“Of course not. Kel, this guy…he’s everything I ever wanted.” I hold up my hands. “No, it’s more than that. He makes me feel everything I want to feel. He told me he’s never met anyone like me and that…I make him see the world differently. And the sex…”

Her eyes go wide and she slaps me on the arm. “Holy shit, Meg.”

“I know.” The smile I share with her fades when I realize I don’t know for sure he feels as strongly as I do. Maybe he just got swept up. Then as if on cue, I spot him over her shoulder in the middle of the lobby. “Oh my God,” I whisper.

Kel freezes, totally aware of what’s happening, then looks over her shoulder. When she turns back her jaw drops. “That’s him?”

I nod, keeping my gaze on Aiden, trying to decide what to do.

“Oh, you are so screwed. He’s gorgeous.” She shakes her head. “God, that’s so unfair. He should be a total dick looking that good.”

“He’s so not.”

My heart races and I’m a second away from jumping up when the redhead from the bar runs up to Aiden, leaps into his arms and wraps her legs around his waist. He spins her as they both share a smile and some intimate words.

My heart feels like it was just ripped from my chest. Kel sees my expression and turns. With her back to me she yells, “What the hell is this!”

“Kel, no,” I whisper-yell, yanking on her shirt.

The woman slides off him and they both look this way, confusion evident on their faces. I get up—because what the hell else can I do—and walk past Kel and over to the cozy couple, my cheeks warm, my stomach quickly knotting.

“Meg? There you are. You had me worried for a second.”

My mouth hangs open like an idiot, and I’m just staring at the redhead.

“Hey, I’m Darla,” she says, sticking her hand out.

I slowly take it like it’s a pipe bomb. “Meg.” I drop her hand, fold my arms across my chest.

“Listen, I’ve got to run but let’s talk later,” she says to him.

He beams, watching her walk off. His smile makes me want to slap it right off.

“She another one of your speed-dating recruits?” I say, unable to mask my hurt and jealousy.

He turns to me with a slight chuckle. “Darla? No…” Then when he sees the look on my face, his smile fades. He steps in to me. “She’s my GM…and—oh!” He laughs, pulling me to him by the waist. “That’s adorable. You’re jealous.”

“Hardly,” I say, turning my head. “It just would have been nice to know ahead of time you’re a player.”

He lets his head fall back in hard laughter. “Gorgeous, I was never a player. And if I was…the moment I laid eyes on you, the rest of womankind ceased to exist.”

My heart and my brain melt from his words. I momentarily forget what I saw as he cups the back of my neck and pulls me in for a kiss.

“Then what the hell was that spectacle?” Kel says loudly behind us.

We both turn to find her with hands on hips. “You must be the famous Kel,” Aiden says. “Nice to meet you even if you do look like you want to rip my head off.”

I turn back to Aiden. “She—we—would appreciate an answer.”

“Give me a kiss and I will.”

As ridiculous as this whole thing is, I comply because I can’t seem to resist him. I brush my lips against his parted mouth and before I know it, he dips me and I hang onto his shoulders. He presses his lips hard against mine, molding my body to his until someone in the lobby wolf-whistles and we pull up for air.

“Well?” I ask with a raised brow, even as my pulse is racing.

“Darla…was thanking me for introducing her to Sara…because they are now engaged.”
