‘Soon.’ She kissed him. ‘Although I suppose it might take some time to organise everything...’

‘All we really need is you and me.’ Gabriel traced his finger slowly along her shoulder. ‘How about next week? We’d have to go to Vegas. We can’t get a licence that quickly in Italy.’

‘Seriously?’

‘Why not?’ He pulled her hand to his lips, kissing it. ‘I don’t want to wait, Clara.’

‘I don’t want to wait either.’ Clara decided that there was just one thing she was going to insist on. ‘I don’t want to be married by an Elvis impersonator, though.’

Gabriel chuckled. ‘No, that wasn’t what I had in mind. The Grand Canyon’s less than an hour away by helicopter...’

Clara caught her breath. ‘We can get married in the Grand Canyon. Next week! But what about your parents?’

‘When I called to give them our news, I asked my mother if she’d be disappointed if we did our own thing for the wedding. She told me that as

long as she can throw us a big party when we get back, she’ll be happy. What do you think?’

His smile dared her to say yes. This was the way it was going to be from now on, Gabriel challenging the impossible and turning it into something real and exciting. It was a journey that Clara couldn’t wait to make.

‘I think... Vegas, here we come.’
