After spending two hours in the office, socializing and incorporating some work, I decide to head home.

As I sit in the cab, reliving what a wonderful day it’s been, my mind wanders to Austin.

“Sir, change of address, please.”

I give the driver Austin’s address, which thankfully is only a slight detour.

Inside Austin’s building, I knock on the door for Jonah to open up.

“Hey, Ava,” Jonah greets, to then scan the area around me. “Where’s Emmy?”

“With my aunt and friend. Is Austin around?”

“Yeah, sure. Come in.”

I follow Jonah inside, only for him to throw a bag over his shoulder. “He’s in the shower. He should be out soon. I’ll catch you later. I’ve got a photoshoot with Andy, which I’m late for.”

With a smile, I forgot Jonah worked along with Andy. Apparently, Jonah was studying medicine which is how he met Austin, but he changed his mind to pursue a creative career.

He closes the door behind him, leaving me alone in the apartment.

Pacing the living room with my phone in hand, I don’t want to sit down nor interrupt Austin. My phone has been buzzing all day with calls and messages, so I take the opportunity to respond to everyone. Millie is the worst offender, uploading all these baby photos of me onto her social media, and in almost every photo, I’m crying beside her while she has a devilish grin on her face.

Me: You’re going to pay for those pictures. Wait until it’s your birthday. I’m going to whip out that video of you when you were two and you pooped in the bathtub.

Millie: You wouldn’t dare!

Me: Game on, sis.

With a grin spreading across my face, a noise forces me to glance up. Austin is standing a few feet away with only a towel wrapped around his waist. His chest is completely dry, standing out so gloriously with his defined six-pack and that V part.

Stop looking, now.

My

eyes quickly divert to his face, where I can see him staring at my chest with a tortured expression.

“If it isn’t the birthday girl,” he says with the corner of his mouth curled up into a smirk. “I was just about to head over to see you.”

“Nikki and Eric insisted on taking care of Emmy for a few hours, so I could go to the office. They didn’t tell me the team had organized a mini party. There was champagne.”

“Hmm,” he mouths, moving closer, which causes my breath to hitch. “It would explain why your cheeks are flushed.”

“It was only half a glass. I googled what was safe, just in case you get all doctor on me. Besides, I pumped enough for Emmy to drink tonight, so yeah…” I rush, my temperature suddenly rising. “Do you mind if I have some water? It’s awfully hot in here.”

I don’t even wait for an answer, moving to the kitchen, where I grab a bottle of water from the refrigerator. Somehow, I manage to twist the lid off and gulp down a fair amount. When I turn around to close the door, Austin is only inches away.

“So tell me, what does the birthday girl want?”

He smells so fresh like soap and aftershave. Between my legs, a persistent throb makes it challenging to get my words out. What did I want? For him to fuck me like I’m the last woman on earth.

“Honestly, Austin. You don’t need to get me anything. I have everything I want.”

Austin leans closer, tilting his head so his lips are close to my ear. “I would hate to think you have everything you want. Otherwise, that would mean another man has touched you.”

My chest tightens with Austin’s deep, prolonged stare into my eyes. I trail my finger down his chest, unable to stop myself from reaching out to touch him.

“I promise you no one else has touched me,” I murmur, biting down on my lip to control my urges. “But I lied. I don’t have everything I want.”
