“Amateurs.” Jake rolled his eyes at the pair of them before thwacking Jamie on the shoulder and sauntering off towards the bedrooms.

Jamie followed after him looking back over his shoulder at me. Confusion over what had really just happened on his face and the whole time I tried to rein in my smile. My jaw actually hurt from trying to hold it in. Dorian and Willow were still quietly watching him walk away as we caught the conversation between him and Jake.

“Did you seriously just piss on her?”

“What?”

“You threw the G-bomb. You’re knocking on forty and you just vomited the G-bomb.”

“Wha—G-bomb?”

“Are you that fucking clueless? You marked her in front of your sisters. Girlfriend? Really?”

“Fuck off, bellend! Oh, and I’m not knocking on forty.”

“You’re past thirty-five, mate, you’re more than knocking.”

“You realise that you’re older than me, right?”

“Yeah, but I also look better and younger than you.”

“How do you lie to yourself?”

“I don’t. Anyway, what now? Are you going to hold her hand and skip down the road? Or are you going to share a Happy Meal?”

“I fucking hate you.”

“I’m just saying. Girlfriend seems so…so…sweet and cute. Awwww…”

I looked up at Dorian who stood facing the stairs with a what the actual fuck look on her face. To be fair if I fancied Jake I’d be thinking the same thing. I still couldn’t get over the fact that she was majorly attracted to him. He was so different from all the other serious types she normally went for. I’d expect it from Willow, she had a thing for twats, but Dorian?

Although, Jake wasn’t exactly a twat. He just had his moments, a lot of them, but in all fairness he was sweet and loyal. He also didn’t take any shit from anyone. In all the years I’d known him, he’d always been a good friend to Jamie. To all of us actually.

“Wow.” She turned to look at me. Her brows hitched like I’d been withholding from her. “Wow. He girlfriended you?”

“What?”

“Jamie and Quincy sitting in a tree k-i-s-s-i-n-g…”

“Shut up, Willow!” I covered her mouth with my hand as she carried on, her words wet and muffled in my hand. “You’re such a child sometimes.”

“That’s the point.” Dorian sat next to me where Jamie had been. Her manicured hand wrapping around the neck of the bottle as she filled my glass. “Just so we’re clear, just because he marked you it doesn’t mean you actually have to oblige him when he makes ridiculous requests like for example that you don’t get drunk.”

“I don’t want to get drunk.” I deftly poured part of the top-up into her glass. “Unlike you I have work tomorrow and then I have dinner prep. Jamie is driving me insane with his checklists and food timing schedules.”

“Well, you are his girlfriend and all.” Willow clinked her glass with Dorian’s as they both looked at me.

I blew out a deep breath. “It sounds so childish.” I whined through my smile. “But it makes me feel all giddy and just aaah!”

They both burst out laughing like I was some award winning comedian. It was true though, it may sound silly and childish but it made me all fuzzy inside. I felt like a fresh hot water bottle had been put in my chest and it was just spreading warmth all around my body, heart and my soul. It was the most amazing feeling. And it wasn’t the label, it was the fact that he’d put it out there like it was the most natural thing. Like it was so obvious it was staring us in the face.

“If you’re going to be that soppy I need to drink more.” Dorian wrapped her arm around my shoulders and squeezed as she took a healthy swig of her wine.

“You know I love you, but maybe you should take it slow.” I took her glass from her.

“Unless you want to get pricked by the prick.” Dorian and I looked at Willow as she shrugged, “What?”

“Sometimes I wonder how we came from the same womb.” She snatched her glass back from me as she looked at Willow in disgust.
