“You love being bossy, don’t you?”

“You haven’t seen me bossy, yet, Flame. And yes…I love it when everything happens my way. That’s who I am.”

“Okay,” I whispered.

I didn’t see him bossy yet, huh? Well…I’d liked to.

“Good girl,” he cooed and leaned toward my lips. But before he could kiss me phone rang. My phone…

“Is that yours?” he asked slowly. His lips caressed mine while talking.

“Yes,” I whispered.

“Won’t you answer?” he asked with a smirk on his face but didn’t move away from me.

“Uggh…” I groaned and stood on my toes for a quick kiss.

I grabbed my phone from the nightstand. I didn’t know how it ended there but I didn’t care. Gary was calling me.

Shit!

“Gary,” I answered the phone.

“Give me only one reason to not give up on training you, Dawn. Give me one damn reason.” Gary growled to the phone.

“Gary…” I sighed.

“You should have called me yesterday, remember? One good reason Dawn. I’m waiting.” Gary said with his chilly calm voice.

“I think I found something about Angel.”

Xander was watching me closely. I couldn’t read his face. He hid his thoughts like a pro. But I couldn’t find any softness in his eyes anymore. Gary bothered him. Jealousy? Possessiveness? I didn’t know.

“Oh…are you okay? Do you need any help?” Gary asked from the other side of the line.

“I’m okay and no, I don’t need any help. I’m not alone in this anymore.” I smiled at Xander, just to see that softness in his eyes again but there was no sign that he’d heard me.

“Not alone? Are you still with those twins you mentioned?” Gary asked.

“Yes.”

“Are you sure you can trust them, Dawn? You have to be careful about who you trust.” Gary told me. His voice was calm, controlled and clipped as always.

“Yes, Gary. Don’t worry about me,” I rolled my eyes.

“Okay. But come to the gym as soon as you can. You have to keep training to protect yourself and to keep your strength.”

“Okay, Gary Bear. Talk to you later.”

“Later,” he answered before ended the call.

“The trainer?” Xander said with chilly tone.

“Yes. I didn’t call him yesterday so he wanted to be sure I was still alive,” I giggled nervously.

“Get ready. I’m in my study. The investigator will be here in ten minutes,” he ordered sh

arply and left the room without a second glance to my way.
