Chapter 9

Amelia

It was that exact moment my tigress had finally had enough and came forward. I happily relaxed into it, letting her take over. She crouched low, keeping everyone in view, and gave a warning growl. My leg still hurt, the shift hadn’t fully healed us, but a good sleep-in animal form should help. She paced as the rest of the conversation unfolded.

Niko, glorious in all his nakedness, even dirty and sweaty as he was, was poetry in motion. I could admit that my attraction to him and to Miguel scared the shit out of me. That didn’t stop me from appreciating them. Niko’s strong sinewy muscle rippled beneath his skin as he walked. His back was completely covered in a tattoo that continued up and over his shoulder. The design seemed to morph as he moved, at first all tribal work, then two tigers, a panther, and cubs climbing his skin, then back to tribal symbols and artwork.

I let my tigress take the lead, trusting her instincts as she jumped to the floor, just a slight limp in my left leg. I could feel the bones still knitting together. A twinge of pain and a slight burn were the only indication my body was working to heal itself. Knitting bones and flushing the last of the infection made me feel vulnerable. My tigress wanted to find a better hiding spot. We felt too out in the open, even in the clinic. I moved toward the door to hunt down a better nest to hide in. Miguel’s paw swatting my hindquarters stopped my movement.

“Amelia, stop, please. You need to stay here. It’s the safest place to be. Please, let us help you, let us stay with you and keep you safe.”The need and desperation in Miguel’s voice in my head had my tigress slowing.

“Do you feel an infection? Bones not healed right? You need to rest to fully heal.”The ever sexy, overpowering, sin on a stick, all-knowing Niko’s words were true, and my tigress knew it. She trusted both of these men implicitly, even if I wanted to keep going. She stopped and waited. Damn her.

Niko shifted, and Miguel approached me slowly until they realized I wasn’t going to run. Miguel butted heads with me gently and rubbed his way down my body. Niko licked the side of my nose and nipped my shoulder.

My aches and pains faded, and I padded the room, testing out my body. I swished my tail playfully when no sign of injury remained. I jumped up on the bed, and my tigress faded, taking my body from fur to flesh in the blink of an eye. Miguel and Niko followed suit and joined me on my bed.

Now that I was completely free of pain, the fact that we were all sitting here naked made things awkward. Nakedness was nothing new to shifters, but when your body and your inner animal reacted as mine did to Niko and Miguel, it created a whole new level of heated awareness. I glanced at the pile of clothing for a split second before looking at the guys again. My body was on fire, not from pain but from an all-consuming need I couldn’t control. Niko and Miguel’s eyes darkened as their nostrils flared, taking in the scent of my arousal. They leaned toward me, the unique blend of their arousals wrapping around me. My body responded, the pull to rub against them almost too strong to contain. My nipples pebbled, and goose flesh rose along my skin.

Miguel scooted behind me, wrapping his arm around my waist. I instinctively leaned back against him, the heat from his body a welcome embrace. Niko scooted forward, his legs wide, leaving room for Miguel and me. I couldn’t take my eyes off his cock. Thick and long with a purple head, it stood tall against his stomach as he moved.

“We’ll be warmer in our fur,” I blurted out. There was no way I was going to sleep naked or do anything between these men in a hospital bed, no matter how specialized it was. I pushed Miguel’s arm away and crawled over their limbs and away from both of them, calling on my tigress to change.

She eagerly came forward, though with different thoughts than just sleeping. She and I stretched together as skin turned to fur and muscle and bone broke and reknitted back together. She twitched her tail in a playful way and bounded past the boys, turning to make sure they followed. Nurse Nancy opened the outer doors, allowing our animals to leave.

They were right behind me in their own fur, ready to romp and play. This, I could handle, leading them on a merry chase, catching each of them off guard at different times, rolling and faking submission only to throw them off and start the game all over again.

“Enough, love. You need to rest.” Niko’s joy and happiness vibrated down our bonds.

“Agreed, a nice hot meal and sleep will help replenish the energy you used today to heal.” Miguel’s words clinched it.

“Okay, where should we go?” My tigress paused so we could catch our breath.

“We could go to my place or Miguel’s,” Niko answered.

“No, I want to go to my house,” I replied.

“We haven’t finished the security upgrade at your place yet. If you want, we can go back to the clinic,” Miguel offered.

“What?! I didn’t give you permission; no one discussed any security at my house,” I huffed. “I just want to curl up somewhere, away from everyone right now.”

“Relax, love, we are simply having new, stronger locks installed on your doors and windows. The cameras needed are on backorder, but if you agree, we will have one placed to cover the front and back of the house.” Niko made it sound so simple and easy.

“Ugh, I just can’t right now. I don’t even want to argue. I’m so tired.”

“I know a place.”Niko began walking, and Miguel and I followed.

He led us to an area in the upper left corner of the compound. An alcove had been carved into the stones and placed there. Large boulders I had never really noticed before were surrounded by shrubbery and foliage and two large trees, giving the whole area shade and a sense of isolation. Niko prowled around the perimeter, trotting back down the path we had taken out of sight. Miguel rubbed his body along mine, his panther purring and chuffing his happiness.

I lay down in the grass, allowing the warmth of the sun to penetrate my fur. I didn’t lay there for long before Niko came trotting back with something in his mouth. He came straight to me, dropping the fabric at my paws. It opened, revealing a large quantity of cooked meat.

“Eat, pet, for your strength. My tiger would have preferred to bring you a fresh kill, but this was the best we could do.”

My tigress stretched, rubbed against Niko, and settled to eat her fill of the food he provided.

“Mates, happy,”she said in one of her rare moments of communication. I tried to ignore the fact that she had effectively claimed two mates with as many words.

The sun faded into darkness, and Niko moved toward the back of the alcove, turning and settling in against the rock face.

“Amelia, you sleep between us.”Miguel nudged me in next. I followed Niko, and my tigress purred with happiness as she curled up and settled in for the night.

Niko wrapped his body around my back, and Miguel curled up around my other side, sandwiching me between their warm furry bodies. For the first time in over a year, I fell into a dreamless and peaceful sleep.
