Page 33 of Their Chosen Mate

“Yes, and I think Miguel needs to join us. We have a lot to talk about.”

“Already here, love.” Miguel pushed Niko into the room and scooted from behind him to join me on the bed again.

Niko awkwardly shuffled from foot to foot, trying to decide where to sit.

I wasn’t going to just invite him to my bed, even if we were just sitting on it. He finally chose the chair by the window, sitting down with his back ramrod straight.

“Niko, that’s not a very inviting or relaxed pose.” Miguel scooted up to lay against the pillows next to me. I stayed silent. I knew a welcome from me would help him relax, but I couldn’t form the words on my tongue. I was still pissed at the way he acted in the living room. I needed to hear an apology from him first.

“Amelia is correct. We do have a lot to talk about, but first, I need to apologize.” Niko leaned forward, resting his arms on his knees. “I have not handled things very well since our bond began to develop.” He paused, looking at both Miguel and me. “For that, I am sorry. I think we all have that fear that it’s not true or not right because we were taught that we had one mate in the world meant for us.” He turned his head and gazed out the window. “It’s hard to go from what’s ingrained in us to accepting what destiny has planned.” He looked back. “Miguel seems to be the one who has gone with the flow of change the best, and I am glad we have him to keep us grounded.”

“Anytime, boss.” Miguel pulled me onto his lap, wrapping his arms around me. “Come join us.” He patted the bed next to us.

“Amelia?” Niko asked.

“Come,” I replied. It was time to start letting my feelings lead me. Niko joined us and propped my feet on his lap. The feel of his hand on my ankle and Miguel’s arms wrapped around me felt like home.

“How is all this going to work?” I plunged right into the questions that were floating around my head. “Won’t you guys get jealous of each other? Do we take turns on who gets to be with who? Do we all have to be together?” I ran out of breath before I could get all the questions out.

“Hey, it’s okay. Let’s take them one at a time.” Miguel rubbed my arm. “We will discover how this is going to work as we go along, right, Niko?”

“Yes, and as far as jealousy, that’s not going to be an issue. A difference of opinion, probably on the daily, but I will never be jealous of any time you spend with Mick.”

“And I won’t be jealous of the time you need one-on-one with Nik,” Miguel added.

I realized they had relaxed enough to use nicknames I had heard before. It was the first time I heard anyone call Niko, Nik. I liked it and decided from here on out that was what I would call him, too.

“Okay, but what about....” I felt heat rushing up my neck as I whispered the rest of my question, “in the bedroom?” I hid my face in Miguel’s chest.

Niko opened his mouth and showed what an ass he really was. “Well, I’ll dominate, of course. Pleasure, both yours and Miguel’s, will be most important, but it will be at my command.”

“Nik!” Miguel cried.

I pulled my legs back and kicked the side of his. “Get the fuck out. If you aren’t going to take this seriously, then go back to your fucking phone. I don’t know why I thought you could be anything but an asshole.”

I crawled off Miguel’s lap and stormed to the door, ripping it open. “Both of you out!”

“I’m not fucking going anywhere,” Niko calmly responded. “You asked a question, and I gave an honest answer. If you have a problem with that, then let’s talk.”

“Love, you can’t kick us out every time something upsets you or scares you,” Miguel coaxed. Neither one of them moved from my bed.

“I can’t do this. I need you both to leave.”

“No, we aren’t going to leave you to come up with your own answers in your head. Come sit back down and let us explain.” Miguel patted the bed.

“Explain what? I think you both have said enough.”

“We’ve hardly said anything.” Niko crossed his arms. Miguel cleared his throat, and Niko dropped them again. “Amelia, come here.” Niko’s voice demanded obedience. My head said no, but the tingle that ran through my body screamed, “Yes, do as he says!”

My feet moved before my brain could catch up. I stopped on the side of the bed Niko sat on. He widened his legs, dropping one off the side, and pointed to the space between them. “Sit.”

My body obeyed even as my brain screamed at me to stop.

“Now, little one, I see the wheels turning in your head. You are overthinking too many things at once.” He leaned forward, taking my chin between his thumb and forefinger. “Let’s replace all those fears, those insecurities, those overblown ideas with the truth.”

I felt the bed move as Miguel stood up. My eyes were focused on Niko and the way his face changed from asshole enforcer Niko to something sexier and more domineering. His eyes darkened with lust as he slowly leaned toward me. His lips met mine, gentle at first and then more demanding just as Miguel moved around the end of the bed and to my side to settle behind me. Miguel’s lips met my neck, tracing a path to that spot where it sloped to my shoulder. Miguel’s lips on my skin and Niko’s taking control of my mouth melted layers of resistance away, but not all of them.

I pushed against Niko’s chest, trying to disentangle myself, my mind winning out over my body for the moment. “Wait, stop. We can’t just fix things with kisses.”
