Tito nodded. “Yes. I thought you knew that.”

Leo shook his head no.

“Do you think we are dealing with another dragon?” I asked.

“No, I think we are dealing with something that has the same powers that Alaska has, the ones she has never truly explained to us,” Tito replied.

“Leo, Alaska checking in. Still no sign of her. I’m going to widen my search another half mile.” The radio crackled as her voice came through.

“Wait on that. We have some more information,” Leo responded. “Niko and Miguel shared with us that she was taken by magic, floated away in a blueish bubble that cut off her bond with them as soon as she left the compound.

“Fuck,” was the only reply.

“Alaska, what aren’t you sharing with us?”

“I’m on my way back. We won’t find her from the sky.”

I grabbed a radio. “Why?!” I paused, waiting for her reply. “Alaska! Answer me!” A warm hand settled on my shoulder, and I jerked before thinking.

“We have to be patient. She’ll share when she makes it back.” Miguel, the calm in every storm, comforted me.

“She better. I can’t lose Amelia.” My shoulders slumped as Miguel’s arms wrapped around me. I welcomed his embrace, his warmth. “We can’t lose her.”

“We won’t. Our mate is strong, and she’s a survivor. She’ll survive this, and we will welcome her back with open arms, an open home, and an open bed.”
