“We have a report of a disturbance here.”

Either Evie or the customers of Calypso’s have our back, another reason for me to love this town.

The group splits up, immediately relaying the information of the past fifteen minutes to the two officers. Another cruiser shows not long after and loads Jason into the back in a pair of handcuffs.

“He shouldn’t be a problem any longer.” The badge across his navy uniform says Stryker. The officer reveals a dimple with his gentle smile, and his baby blues flash. “You’re safe here.”

“Please tell me he finally messed up.” I hold my breath in wait for confirmation.

Office Stryker nods. “He should have stayed in Colorado. Crossing state lines to stalk someone is a federal crime.”

“Thank you.” I take the card he offers between two fingers. Dane tucks me into his side, and Officer Stryker walks away.

I roll my shoulders to remove some of the tension residing there. “I’m sorry your night was delayed. You guys should head over to the bar.”

“I’m not. I think our timing was perfect. I don’t even want to consider what he was planning on doing.”

“So let’s not.”

“Agreed.” Dane places a soft peck against my lips. He strokes gently down the loose hair framing my face. “Did you mean it?”

He almost sounds nervous, and I know what he’s asking even without specifying. Hope shines in his gray eyes.

“Yes.” My answer floats away on the wind.

“You’re staying,” he confirms and grips my waist.

“It’s stupid to consider any other option.”
