MEGHAN

This is both the worst and best day of my life.

Early this morning, I met with my advisor, Dr. Francis, who informed me I was still one class short of graduating.

“How is this even possible?” I wailed in her office. “I’ve taken every course required.”

Dr. Francis shrugged. “I’m sorry, Meghan. Maybe some credits were lost when you transferred?”

“So, now what am I supposed to do? I already have a full course load this semester and I am not enrolling in summer school again.”

This summer was magical, and I doubt I’ll ever have another. Meeting Julian was the highlight of my trip to Cambridge, a trip that ultimately left me with nothing.

“I cannot believe you’re leaving me in the morning,” Julian whispered during our last night together. “I don’t think I can bear to part with you.”

His hold on me tightened, and I willingly sank deeper into the warmth and safety of his embrace.

“The new semester starts in a few months and now I’ve got to put all of this research together into a…thesis proposal.

Hopefully, my advisor accepts it,” I answered, hoping he didn’t catch my stumble.

I might have lied to Julian about my age…and my status at Danville University. At the time, I didn’t think it was a big deal. Julian and I never talked about continuing our relationship, and honestly, I was quite happy with the distraction of a summer fling. But now that our time was ending, I wasn’t ready to leave. Or to let him go.

He did things to my body I’d never experienced before. He made it sing for him.

I sat up slowly and let the straps of my black satin chemise fall from my shoulders. Julian’s eyes darkened and he sucked in a breath.

“One more night,” I whispered.

His eyes flicked up. “You know the magic word, little one.”

“Daddy.”

Back in the real world, Dr. Francis was talking, but I hardly listened.

“I have a solution.” She sat straighter in her chair and folded her hands neatly on the desk in front of her. “We have a guest lecturer this semester. Dr. Armstrong has joined us from Cambridge. We normally assign these positions to grad students, but the position is yours if you want it.”

The moment she said Cambridge, I was hooked. Maybe Dr. Armstrong knew Julian.

“How could I possibly fit a TA position into my schedule? It’s already so full.”

She waved her hand. “I doubt you’ll have much work to do. He doesn’t want a TA. It’s in his contract, but I’m sure he’ll make an exception for you.”

“What makes you so sure he’ll do that? Especially if he doesn’t want someone to assist him.”

She sat back and cleared her throat. “You’re a beautiful girl, Meghan. I’m sure you won’t have a hard time convincing Dr. Armstrong to allow you to assist him.”

My eyes narrowed, because what she suggested was insane. “Are you serious? You want me to seduce him?”

“I didn’t say that.”

“No, but it was implied.”

“Listen, Meghan. Do you want to graduate on time or not?”

“Of course, I do.”

“Then accept what I’m offering you.”
