“Everything will be okay, little one,” he whispers, then kisses the top of my head. “I love you.”

When Julian returns home a few hours later, I’m slightly calmer, but not much. I couldn’t care less about Stephanie knowing about my relationship with Julian. I’m an adult and our relationship began outside Danville University. But ruining my chance at graduation? That makes me freak the fuck out.

The moment Julian steps through the front door, I pounce, assaulting him with questions.

“What am I going to do, Julian? The semester is over, and I have no capstone project! I’ve worked so hard for this and she’s ruining everything! Why is she doing this to us? To me?”

He grips my shoulders. “Settle down, Megs. Come on, let’s have a seat. I’ve got a few things to tell you.”

Unexpectedly, tears fall down my cheeks and a heavy pit settles in my stomach. “Are you ending this? Are we over? Oh, God. I can’t lose you too!”

He chuckles as he leads me over to the couch. “You’re so fucking gorgeous when you’re hysterical.”

We settle onto the couch, and he pulls me into the warmth of his embrace.

“First, you’re mine. Forever.”

I sigh with relief.

“I’m sorry,” I whisper. “I’m so tired and stressed.”

He brushes my hair back from my face. “I know, love. And that’s why I’m taking you away on holiday.”
